Lawrence O'Donnell aired this tonight on his MSNBC show "The Last Word". It is time for bullying to stop. Bullying. We have seen an increase of "bullying" behavior by politicians and "wannabe" politicians who are running for office or those who have already run for office. And this sets the stage for bullying to rise by our young people. We as adults set the example to stop, tolerate or "fire up" bullying behavior.
This is a brave soul ~ Joel Burns. I hope you will listen and even if you disapprove of gay people being gay, I hope you will have compassion and empathy enough to help be part of the solution to stop the tide of bullies in our human race. Bullies in the family, in your town, in the rooms you pass through, in the campaigning, in the classroom, the places in our children's lives where they think they can get a pass on this behavior. Zoning laws, property taxes and school budgets typically dominate the conversation at city council meetings. But one councilman in Fort Worth, Texas used his podium to talk about the recent suicide epidemic among gay youths.
In a very emotional speech on Tuesday, Joel Burns pleaded with gay teens to re-think suicide as an option. At times, he even broke down and cried in the 12-minute appeal.
"Attitudes will change, life will get better, you will have a lifetime of happy memories if you just allow yourself and give yourself the time to make them," said Burns.
Burns, an openly gay man, says he struggled with his sexuality growing up. He also described what it felt like being bullied as kid.
"High school was difficult, coming out was painful," he said. "I want to tell any teen who is watching this, life will get better."

On December 9, 1948, in the shadow of the Holocaust, the United Nations approved the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. This convention establishes "genocide” as an international crime, which signatory nations “undertake to prevent and punish.” It defines genocide as:
Genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

In 1996 Gregory Stanton the president of Genocide Watch presented a briefing paper called "The 8 Stages of Genocide" at the United States Department of State. In it he suggested that genocide develops in eight stages that are "predictable but not inexorable".
The Stanton paper was presented at the State Department, shortly after the Rwanda genocide and much of the analysis is based on why that genocide occurred. The preventative measures suggested, given the original target audience, were those that the United States could implement directly or use their influence on other governments to have implemented.
Stage Characteristics Preventive measures
1. Classification People are divided into "us and them". "The main preventive measure at this early stage is to develop universalistic institutions that transcend... divisions."
2. Symbolization "When combined with hatred, symbols may be forced upon unwilling members of pariah groups..." "To combat symbolization, hate symbols can be legally forbidden as can hate speech".
3. Dehumanization "One group denies the humanity of the other group. Members of it are equated with animals, vermin, insects or diseases." "Local and international leaders should condemn the use of hate speech and make it culturally unacceptable. Leaders who incite genocide should be banned from international travel and have their foreign finances frozen."
4. Organization "Genocide is always organized... Special army units or militias are often trained and armed..." "The U.N. should impose arms embargoes on governments and citizens of countries involved in genocidal massacres, and create commissions to investigate violations"
5. Polarization "Hate groups broadcast polarizing propaganda..." "Prevention may mean security protection for moderate leaders or assistance to human rights groups...Coups d’état by extremists should be opposed by international sanctions."
6. Preparation "Victims are identified and separated out because of their ethnic or religious identity..." "At this stage, a Genocide Emergency must be declared. ..."
7. Extermination "It is "extermination" to the killers because they do not believe their victims to be fully human." "At this stage, only rapid and overwhelming armed intervention can stop genocide. Real safe areas or refugee escape corridors should be established with heavily armed international protection."
8. Denial "The perpetrators... deny that they committed any crimes..." "The response to denial is punishment by an international tribunal or national courts."

President Obama said when he selected Scott Gration as Special Envoy to Sudan, that he was the one for the job. Gration and Obama don't agree at this point that what is going on in Sudan is systematic scheming to exterminate the Darfuris. To succeed, they need to agree on the basics, such as what is going on by the Government of Sudan. This discrepancy is a recipe for a failed legacy for our new President. We just had a President who left office with a failed legacy on Darfur.

So, let's make a change regarding what can be done about the Darfuris, President Obama.
And let us start with replacing Scott Gration as the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan.

Hatred never begets calm, dignity or you looking good while embodying it... The behavior being paraded at the so-named Town Hall meetings on health care, so that they will be aired and re-aired ad nauseam on Youtube, television and other platforms is all about being a sham.
That is the nature of who we have become....watching a train wreck, until we want to cry

It isn't health care or their claim that Obama is going to make the USA a socialist country that bothers them and gets them off their chairs to go out and scream and carry racist placards. It isn't that they claim Barack Obama is not a USA citizen.
I realize that I am putting them all in a stereotypical category. But it doesn't take much to scratch the surface and get at the truth.
Listen to them try to make sense of their position. It loses integrity quickly. Catch the words, mind the tenor of their fear.
Do they care about anyone but themselves? Proof that they care about no one but themselves is witnessed by how they express their claimed cause. They can only do it while being rude, aggressive and while defaming.
Not one of them has made a point with rational thoughts. Not one of them has been civil. Even a bigot well-dressed or educated in a fine university is just a bigot. A reasonable person can be civil while being opposed to an idea. The public display of their behavior undermines that anyone should listen to them for long.
I heard one on Hardball Tuesday night, who thought everyone in Portsmouth, New Hampshire - where he had a loaded gun when President Obama was answering health care questions - would be safer if EVERYone there carried a loaded gun.
It is bigots who are mad the USA has a President who they feel so threatened by - that they will do what it takes to cause anything he is trying to do fail.
The real cause behind their madness comes from the fear they have that if Barack Obama is seen as a successful President, we will have more people in government with darker skin than theirs.
This scares them so much that they are emboldened by their fears to bare their flaws.
I, too, am in opposition to President Obama. My issue is the Darfur crisis. Health care for all is not a crime. And it will not bring down the country.
Are we going to allow mad, non-sensical men and women choose our agenda?
Remember Richard Nixon and the phrase he invented: "the silent majority"? I am thinking there are those about this issue. And I believe the whole purpose to the "crazy-making" behavior of these "citizens" is to keep the others who may be for "health care for all" from having a chance to ask a question. Another man I heard Tuesday night on television said that some of these rude people voted for Barack Obama. That is boldercrap.

Hate shows up in town halls or where no one is watching.
Shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998, 21-year-old Shepard met McKinney and Henderson in a bar. McKinney and Henderson offered Shepard a ride in their car. Subsequently, Shepard was robbed, pistol whipped, tortured, tied to a fence in a remote, rural area, and left to die. McKinney and Henderson also found out his address and intended to rob his home. Still tied to the fence, Shepard was discovered eighteen hours later by Aaron Kreifels, who at first thought that Shepard was a scarecrow. At the time of discovery, Shepard was still alive, but in a coma.
Shepard suffered a fracture from the back of his head to the front of his right ear. He had severe brain stem damage, which affected his body's ability to regulate heart rate, body temperaturevital signs. There were also about a dozen small lacerations around his head, face and neck. His injuries were deemed too severe for doctors to operate. Shepard never regained consciousness and remained on full life support. As he lay in intensive care, candlelight vigils were held by the people of Laramie.
He was pronounced dead at 12:53 A.M. on October 12, 1998, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.Police arrested McKinney and Henderson shortly thereafter, finding the bloody gun as well as the victim's shoes and wallet in their truck.
The two men had attempted to get their girlfriends to provide alibis.

BROTHERS and SISTERS My Favorite Television Show and a scene to break Kevin and Chad up.
I happen to love an American television show that began September 24, 2006. It airs on Sunday evenings, on ABC at 10:00 p.m. The show, Brothers and Sisters, is the creation of Jon Robin Baitz. Robbie Baitz is openly gay and committed to himself and to the viewers that he would not avoid dealing openly and honestly with all of the characters on the show which includes one adult gay male as a part of a large family. Kevin Walker is the character who plays the man who shows us into Robbie’s journey. He is played believably and exceptionally well by Welsh actor Matthew Rhys (pronounced rees). For many of us Matthew is our favorite actor on the show although the entire cast is richly talented. Kevin is an attorney. I know, I for one, love Kevin because of how Matthew Rhys portrays Kevin. Though Kevin is not gay in real life, he has no problem with all that is required to sincerely come across as gay with his acting and willingness to commit to all that Kevin is. Kevin was introduced to us last fall as having an ex-boyfriend’s picture in his law office, while meeting his new beau friend, Scotty Wandell. I love Kevin and Scotty together because they seem to have warmth that exudes from themselves to the other. It’s a kind of magical charm that sends sparks out from the television screen. There is a synergy between Matthew Rhys, who plays Kevin Walker, and Luke MacFarlane, who plays Scotty Wandell – where the sum of what each is becomes another whole entity when on the screen together. Sadly, Kevin and Scotty had some quirky little arguments and they have been estranged from one another except for one night when they had been set up as a blind date one for the other. However, this was also during a time when Kevin had been dating another man who was not openly gay and was squeezing Kevin back into the dreaded “don’t ask, don’t tell” invisible existence. And it hurts Kevin. Chad is soon to rock Kevin’s world. And NOT in a good way.
Below I have written (in a about 15 minutes) a fan fiction of the scene that Chad and Kevin take their tattered loose ends of a relationship and cut the ties that bind them. Falling in love is the easy part. Breaking up is the cruelest part of a love and life affair that built you up to let you down. I have two songs included here from Youtube that I have selected. I have included the lyrics for you to read how appropriate the song is for this multilayered chapter of Kevin’s love life. Of course, it is difficult to find a song with the right pronouns, you know, "he" in place of "she", so you’ll have to substitute in your thinking “he” for all of the “she” pronouns. But either one of these songs works for me, as background music for this little scene of emotional pain and dis-ease. I’ve been “there” more than once in my life. It just plain sucks you lifeless in one way and yet if you feel the pain – you KNOW you’re alive. So in that sense, I learned to be grateful for feeling the pain.

This excerpt just below is from a love letter written in the book, Soul on Ice, by Eldridge Cleaver to Beverly Axelrod a San Francisco lawyer while he was in Folsom Prison. I think it is beautifully expressed as to how and why it is difficult to put ourselves out there on the limb to really give and take love.
“…The reason two people are reluctant to really strip themselves naked in front of each other is because in doing so they make themselves vulnerable and give enormous power over themselves one to the other. How awful, how deadly, how catastrophically they can hurt each other, wreck and ruin each other forever!...Better to maintain shallow, superficial affairs; that way the scars are not too deep, no blood is hacked from the soul. You beautifully – O, how beautifully!! – spoke...of ‘What an awesome thing it is to feel oneself on the verge of the possibility of really knowing another person...’ and...I do not believe that a beautiful relationship has to always end in carnage. They see themselves as so inadequate that they feel forced to wear a mask in order to continuously impress the other. I do not want to ‘hold you’, I want you to ‘stay’ out of your own need for me. ...It takes time and deeds, and this involves trust, it involves making ourselves vulnerable to each other, to strip ourselves naked, to become sitting ducks for each other...I am vulnerable and defenseless and I make myself a duck for you. ...And it is not a fraud, forced out of desperation...”
Accept me as I am, Don’t require me to be Anything I’m not… …I’d rather take the probable consequences and possible discrimination, if necessary, for me to be myself. If I’d be any other way for whatever reason I would have to face a hypocrite in my mind’s constant mirror.
There is no altenative, I am me. ..My ideas are not borrowed. They are j u s t mine, fused conglomeration.
I try to love others for what they are Not for what I can make them up to be.
My hope is that you can accept me as I, alone, am. If you cannot, then words be silent and we will part, going our own separate ways. Peace.
For those of us who can meet the beautiful of earth is ours in infinity We will stop no where. All in us is open and all is open to us.
We dare to step out into this world of infinity aware of the possible hurt but knowing we must become so vulnerable. We have no other way to go.
The arms of our souls are long, The depth of our warmth penetrates beyond physical imagination. And we cling to each other, in peaceful trembling.
I love my life. I love where I live. And I am passionate about my passions. I love to dance. Necessary to live: music, piano, singing, writing, acting, painting.
I have been fighting for and supporting the arts all my adult life. Since 2004, I have been working with other activists to end the Darfur genocide.
I have traveled to Europe many times since my early twenties. Places I have been: many USA states including Hawaii, Montreal, Canada, Barbados, France, Spain, Luxembourg, England, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Germany - and have wonderful memories.
My last trip was in May - June 2013 to Spain.
I would like to travel to Europe and Kyoto, Japan.
I love the southwest where I have visited Hopi, Navajo, Zia and San Idlefonso potters.
Life is exciting and I intend to live it full-out to the end.
