WHERE ARE THE CHRISTIAN ACTIONS OF REPUBLICAN CHRISTIANS?

A moral compass and Christianity need to go hand in hand. So many politicians say that they are Christian. If they don't tell "me", I wouldn't have any idea. Actions say it all.

Top 10 Worst Things about the Republicans' Immoral Budget

The Republican budget would:

1. Destroy 700,000 jobs, according to an independent economic analysis.

2. Zero out federal funding for National Public Radio and public television.

3. Cut $1.3 billion from community health centers--which will deprive more than three million low-income people of health care over the next few months.

4. Cut nearly a billion dollars in food and health care assistance to pregnant women, new moms, and children.

5. Kick more than 200,000 children out of pre-school by cutting funds for Head Start.

6. Force states to fire 65,000 teachers and aides, dramatically increasing class sizes, thanks to education cuts.

7. Cut some or all financial aid for 9.4 million low- and middle-income college students.

8. Slash $1.6 billion from the National Institutes of Health, a cut that experts say would "send shockwaves" through cancer research, likely result in cuts to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research, and cause job losses.

9. End the only federal family planning program, including cutting all federal funding that goes to Planned Parenthood to support cancer screenings and other women's health care.

10. Send 10,000 low-income veterans into homelessness by cutting in half the number of veterans who get housing vouchers this year.

HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES DESERVE ALL THE MONEY THEY CAN MAKE. RIGHT?

The title to the post is wrong. I don't believe the statement. It is irony.

I have always had serious issues with the wording in the Declaration of Independence. Specifically this excerpt:

The history of the present King of Great Britain [George III] is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

The indigenous people had a right to protect their way of life. After all, it is felt today, that the United States has a right to protect their way of life by those who attacked the USA on September 11.

I believe the wording which calls the indigenous people "merciless Indian Savages" is full of prejudice, ignorance and racist. And here it is institutionalized in one of the most important documents - other than all those treaties the government signed with the indigenous peoples and broke one after another.

Ironic, that the following words are what is written between the above statements. Some of the very things that the Declaration of Independence is faulting King George of Great Britain of doing to the Europeans, who landed in North America, the Europeans were doing and worse to the indigenous people already inhabiting the land being taken or stolen by the Europeans.


* He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us, in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

The second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence begins:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life...

"...certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life". "Life" includes health care, health insurance. And yet, so much trouble around a health care bill that provides this right to life, even for those who can't afford insurance.

The pledge of allegiance to the USA flag, which there was such a flurry about during the Presidential campaign ends with the words "with liberty and justice for all". There were false claims at that time, that Barack Obama would not wear a patriotic flag pin or say the pledge of allegiance.

There is a lack of "justice for all", if not all can afford health care.

FREEDOM WITH CIVILITY MISSING IN ACTION

FREEDOM OF SPEECH HAS BECOME ANARCHY...

West Wing was one of the best written, relevant, best acted USA network television series. Not HBO, but one of the three original TV networks. I feel the second term of George W Bush may have happened because some people thought the fictional President Jed Bartlett on the West Wing was our President.

You can still catch the West Wing on Bravo weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with back to back episodes, with an occasional disruption in the scheduling. The only thing is I can't stand when Bravo goes to commercial - their resident announcer is intolerable. Just beyond any scale of good taste. I have to mute the sound immediately to bear it.

Youtube has many great scenes for those of you who aren't familiar with this wonderful series.

I picked the one below to post because I feel it is relevant in a way to the off-the-rails behavior of the bigots in the United States of America who seem to have highjacked the media and the decency of leadership in the Republican party that could exercise...well, some leadership. Not the sick kind that we have been subjected to over the last few months. But political leaders who say with clarity that the bigots are wrong - that the calling our President "The Joker", Hitler, and on and on with the sick hurling insults, bigoted and incendiary statements - need to stop and be replaced with some uncommon common sense. These people aren't patriotic. They are ignorant at best. They have sucked the life out of any semblance of honest debate about the health care issues. At worst, our President's life is made more likely to be taken by the polluted environment that they have put into motion. And you don't hear Republicans say anything to help reign in the lies, misleading rhetoric or steer the conversation to civility. This started during the Presidential campaign. And now it is even more blatant. Scarcely veiled "pretend" facts are racists' remarks and behavior. They might as well all be wearing sheets.

Freedom of speech has become anarchy of speech.

President Obama is not admitting the racism that is at the root of the behavior. But that is what is at the root. These insecure people feel empowered because the Limbaughs, the Glenn Becks, the Joe Wilsons, etc. make them feel they have legitimate principles. But it is hate's vile bile.

RACISTS WHO DON'T KNOW THEY ARE RACISTS

AND THE SILENCE OF THOSE WHO AREN'T

If the loudest words and the current atmosphere of spreading opinions as facts continues without being called out for what they may very well be - uninformed, prejudice-based and racism in the United States of America - then it will take people with the backbone and courage to become loud and repetitive in our own "loop" of saying:

"This is racism and this is not how I want to be defined. This is not the direction I want this country to continue."

The agenda of this country will continue to be highjacked by this segment of the United States of America, until a saner segment speaks up and steers the agenda. Silence will not get us what we want, unless we want racists to lead us into the valley of sick.

Racism - dressed up - as normal is where we are right now.

If racists are the ones using their right to spread ignorance and hatred and the ones on the other side are being apathetic and voiceless, there is only one outcome. And it won't be a proud period of history.

Before Senator Barack Obama announced that he was going to run for President of the United States of America and our representative in the whole world, I wanted him to run. Now, of course he is running. And he is number two, while Senator Hillary Clinton is poll-wise, number one in the competition.


I stated from the start that I wasn’t Opposed to Hillary Clinton as President, as much as I was For Obama for President. And why? Because he gives me the feeling of inspiration. Hillary does not. We need to get charged up. We need to get fired up. We need to be asked by our politicians to be a part of their elected jobs. And we need to be participants in our government with or without our politicians beckoning us to join them.


The most important office is that of citizen.
I heard that quote stated by Barack Obama.

I always believe that ultimately, if people are paying attention, then we get good government and good leadership. ARE WE NUTS? COUNTING ON OUR VICES TO KEEP US HEALTHY AND ALIVE

FUNDING HEALTH CARE WITH CIGARETTES

Insurance Companies are not a part of “We the People”. They should not have a seat at the table to determine how the congress or the President should deal with our people’s health care. They are in business to make money from our health insurance premiums. They don’t care if we get health care coverage. They care about how much money they can make.

I’ve always wondered about how we try to fund programs on such things as our vices. For example, the targeted and specific taxes placed on packs of cigarettes for various things. The fact that we would fund health care with taxes on cigarettes is obscene, amoral and lacking intelligence. Can we think beyond short-term funding? Can we project into the future and what is sensible? Sometimes we get what we pay for. In this case, using cigarette taxes to pay for good programs is just plain mindless.

What if people stop smoking? Then, who will pay for our health care? How will we pay for the other things that are paid for with cigarette taxes already? What if we continue to set ourselves up to count on people to smoke? As the funding needs increase, it will be necessary to want the number to increase of smokers. This is ridiculous, don’t you think? To count on our vices to keep us healthy and alive? Sounds like sick-thinking to me.

This bill would establish a unique American universal health insurance program with single payer financing. As a publicly financed, privately delivered health care system that improves and expands the already existing Medicare program, it would be available to all U.S. residents, and all residents living in U.S. territories.

The goal of the legislation is to ensure that all Americans will have access, guaranteed by law, to the highest quality and most cost effective health care services regardless of their employment, income or health care status. They would receive all medically necessary primary care, dental, mental health, prescription drugs, and long term care services by the physician of their choice, with no restrictions on what providers they could visit. With 47 million uninsured Americans, and another 50 million who are underinsured, the time has come to change our inefficient and costly fragmented non-system of health care. Is children's health care funding all smoke?

(AXcess News) Washington - When Sen. Jim Bunning, R-KY., spoke on the Senate floor Thursday, it came as no surprise that he argued against expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program, as did many of his Republican colleagues.

But Bunning, the two-term senator from the Bluegrass State, objected to more than just the idea of a "government-run health care system."

He has a problem with the bill's funding: namely a proposed 61 cent increase in federal taxes on tobacco products.

"The tobacco tax funding mechanism is an irresponsible way to pay for children's health care," he said. "The increased tax is fundamentally unfair to my state and the surrounding states."

But the government should worry about more than just the bill's equity. Raising the federal excise tax, he said, would drive away the source of the program's funding by pressing Americans to quit smoking.

The American Cancer Society estimates that for every 10 cent rise in the tobacco tax, 4 percent of smokers over 18 quit.
