SMEARMASTER SCOTT WHEELER BEHIND THE HATE AD WRONGFULLY TRASHING OBAMA

WHO IS Scott Wheeler?

Not much can be found on his background. Nothing, really. What about his childnood, mentors, heros, education? I found nothing. But when I see someone's work that is so disgustingly hateful and vindictive I want to know who the person is who is putting out such character assasssination. When I learned that Scott Wheeler is behind the Hate We Can Believe In ad about Senator Barack Obama, I went online searching to know who this guy is. His ad claims as truth that Barack Obama is hateful, raging, too radical and too risky. This is not the truth, but Wheeler's ad is blitzing the television screens in swing states, his website claims. But it is being shown in Rhode Island and we are not a swing state. Little Rhode Island.

VOTE FOR OBAMA - BIDEN

WAITING TO EXHALE IN THE USA

I have had to hold my breath for eight years.

I hope I can put my head on the pillow tomorrow night and be able to finally let the air out.

And if Obama wins, let's thank Bush for his mess and send him home early - he's served his time for too long. He needs a vacation. Even though it isn't August.

The World is Waiting for Obama

Norway - Dagsavisen - Original Article (Norwegian)

After eight disastrous years of George W. Bush, there is a need for fundamental change in Washington, not just in respect to America, but for the entire world. The confidence in America must be rebuilt from the ground up. Barack Obama can do that. The world needs an America that can speak with moral authority and who is respected for its will to dialogue about the most pressing, global challenges we are facing.

The election is not over until the votes are counted. Barack Obama has a clear lead in the polls. But polls are not votes, and this year they are less certain than ever. But if the US really elects Obama – with a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas – as its president, it will remove many of the prejudices towards America that exists in the world.

During the campaign, Barack Obama has shown that he has the best understanding and the biggest grip on the incredibly complex challenges posed by economic crisis that we are all facing. The goal is to turn the economic recession around, protect jobs and make sure that all Americans have access to basic healthcare.

John McCain, however, has shown fully that the economy is an area he does not understand, something he also admitted at the start of the campaign. He has been confusing, unclear and has frequently changed his message. But in the end it all comes back to the traditional Republican mantra of tax relief. McCain’s economic plan is no different from the catastrophic policy of George W. Bush.

Barack Obama always looks cool, sober and pragmatic. Abilities that are perfect for a president. John McCain, however, has shown himself to be an angry hothead. McCain is also a gambler, something he has proved with his irresponsible choice for a vice presidential candidate. The world should be spared from a gambler in the White House. If John McCain loses on Tuesday, it will be fully deserved.

Barack Obama for president

We see America the way Barack Obama sees America.

Our future requires a steady, intelligent and, as former Secretary of State Colin Powell said, a "transformational" leader to guide us into a new era. Obama brings deep intellectual curiosity, equanimity and discipline.

The ground under America is moving. A generational change is under way with or without Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., or Barack Obama, D-Ill.

The core concerns are more about the future than the past, be it eight years ago or one day ago. They are about the moment and the movement to engage Americans in ways not seen before, especially against a backdrop of economic strife unmatched since the Great Depression.
McCain is correct that it's time to stand up. "Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We're Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history," he said at the Republican National Convention.
However, the ways of the past, which we believe McCain understands, will not work in this new America. The future requires new tools and new expertise. A premium must be placed on more than just love of country. We must re-embrace American ideals and lead the world on a stronger path to prosperity and peace.

The time is now and the leader is Barack Obama. The Star endorses Obama for president of the United States.

Like a race car driver going into a turn, a leader must see not only what confronts our nation today but envision where we come out on the other side. Obama sees how the United States is connected to other nations through our economic, immigration, national security and energy policies. No one can thrive alone.

Obama sees a foreign policy where force is but one tool. He envisions countries collaborating to confront bad actors and shared challenges such as global warming, poverty, terrorism, disease and religious extremism.

Obama sees a health-care system in which children can go to the doctor and families aren't forced into bankruptcy by medical bills. He experienced the same hardships many American families face. While his mother was dying of cancer, she battled her insurance company for care.
He embraces the strength of the free market, but sees that, in the United States today, the market doesn't meet people's health-care needs. He knows the heavy toll that inequitable public policies take on people's lives. We agree with Obama that health care should be as affordable and accessible to as many people as possible.

Obama sees an economy creating jobs through innovation, helping families stay in their homes and lifting the middle class and small businesses. He would reduce taxes for the majority of Americans and not raise taxes on those making less than $250,000.
Obama sees education as an investment in America's prosperity, political system and national security. He would expand early childhood education and protect funding for public schools. A college education is out of reach for many Americans. He would help make it more affordable through tuition tax credits.

He's proved himself with his nuanced understanding of complicated issues. His vision is not built on rhetoric. He offers substantive, detailed policies and the acumen to make these changes a reality.

He demonstrates leadership by surrounding himself with smart people who will strengthen his administration. For vice president Obama chose Joseph Biden, a U.S. senator with 35 years of experience, a foreign policy expert qualified to be president.
Obama made a responsible, pragmatic and intelligent choice that shows us he puts the nation above party politics.

This moment in history requires courage to change. Our nation must find a way to restore the confidence that our government is of the people, by the people, for the people — all of our people.

We share Obama's vision of America. And we share his urgency. END of text.

VOTE - LET'S GIVE PEACE A CHANCE - OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT

Today, in my state there is a TV ad running with Wright as the only subject. Of course, the reason it is running is to drum up votes for whom I consider ~ the Wrong candidate.

Last Friday night a story was illegally leaked that was for the purpose also to steer people toward the Wrong candidate. I have been disappointed before with the USA being fickle and attaching themselves to what amounts to non-issues ~ so we will see what effect this has on the election.

There is some man who is claiming on Youtube that he has proof that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. The problem is that Barack's mother would have had to be in Kenya for that to happen. And she wasn't.

It will be a very sad day if we don't get a chance to see a change.

I sent this email out today to USA citizens who want the genocide on the Darfuri people to end:

Dear Person of Conscience,

If you have voted already - Thank you. If you are planning to vote election day, please don’t allow anything to keep you from it. As someone who has been active in trying to bring our politicians along regarding the well-being of the Darfuri families and the genocide, you know how important it is to have a President who actually will do what needs to be done.

As someone who has never volunteered before in an election before this one, I know first hand - millions of hours by volunteers are presently and have been working in the primaries and the general election months to get people to the polls. It is startling to realize that we have to work so hard to get people informed and then get them to actually vote.

Please, vote. And encourage all you know to vote. And make sure you know your rights: http://www.aclu.org/votingrights/gen/36695res20080909.html

I have information below for my home state of Rhode Island, as well as Massachusetts and Connecticut.

If you want to help out, contact me and I will give you the phone number to call and address where you can go today, tonight and/or tomorrow to help out all the over-worked volunteers here in Rhode Island. This work includes calling to battleground states, as well as standing out with signs for visibility.

Thank you.

Let’s give peace a chance.

http://www.sec.state.ri.us/elections/news-items/last-minute-options-for-voting

There are last-minute alternatives for Rhode Islanders who missed the deadline to register to vote or who find they will be out-of-town unexpectedly on November 4.

"Same-day" Ballots
If you missed the October 4 deadline to register to vote, you will not be able to vote for statewide or local races on Election Day. However, you will be able to cast a "same-day" ballot for President and Vice President if you are otherwise eligible to register to vote. In most places, just to go to your community's city or town hall on November 4.
Four cities and towns have set up special locations instead of town hall on Election Day: Coventry Town Hall Annex, 1675 Flat River Road; Little Compton, Wilbur McMann School, 28 Commons; Providence, Dunkin Donuts Center, 1 LaSalle Square; and Smithfield Senior Center, 1 William J. Hawkins Jr. Trail.

Whether you go to town hall or a special location, local elections officials will be on hand to help. You can register to vote and cast a ballot in the presidential race on the spot. And you are officially registered in Rhode Island for future elections.

Emergency Ballots
If you unexpectedly find you will be out-of-town on Election Day, you can go to your community's city or town hall and request an Emergency Ballot. You must be eligible to vote on Election Day in order to qualify. You will fill out a ballot at town hall and seal it in a privacy envelope. Your vote will be counted on Election Day the same as absentee and voting-machine ballots.

GENOCIDE STOPS WITH US - LET'S MAKE IT PAST HISTORY

From www.savedarfur.org:

Daily News: Monday, November 2, 2008

Reuters: Darfuris march in The Hague to back court's action. More than 100 Darfuris marched through The Hague on Friday to show their support for the International Criminal Court's (ICC) move to indict Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. "We've come here to support the ICC and to support justice because without justice, there will be no peace," said Mohammed Ismail from the Darfur Union, a civil society group that helped organise the demonstration. The ICC's top prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo asked the global court's judges to issue the warrant in July, accusing Bashir of orchestrating a campaign of genocide in Darfur that has killed thousands and forced millions from their homes.

Agence France-Presse: JEM to mull Qatar proposal for Sudan peace talks. The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), militarily the most powerful rebel group in Darfur, will send delegates to Qatar to sound out plans for possible talks with Sudan, a JEM official said on Saturday. "JEM has made it very clear that its delegation will go to Doha to give a first-hand explanation, and the position of JEM regarding the Darfur problem, and the Sudan problem as a whole, and at the same time listen to the Qataris to see what their initiative is," Tahir el-Faki told AFP by telephone from London. Darfur rebel groups have been critical of Arab-led peace efforts, saying they were designed to save Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir from international court proceedings for alleged war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZER RUNS THE BEST PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

Where will you be November 4th? I don't understand anyone who will not vote this year. I don't understand how stupid some people are. Some people don't want to know the truth. They just want to make up the truth and call it truth. Truth doesn't lie.

Barack Obama has run a superb campaign. Superior to anyone else. George W Bush had his Rove brain to be his axis of evil architect. Barack has used a different style. But no one can say that Barack Obama has no new ideas, is sloppy on details or the long view, hasn't shown true grit and fortitude, can't stand up to his own party (consider the stand he took on when he ran against the Clinton team) ~ this is a fantastic use of "community" organizing only on a national scale. His new ideas are shown in his various policies and his broad view of how to take this country forward into the 21st century although we are down and not quite out - but the new ideas of how to run a Presidential campaign are overflowing and they have worked quite well.

I am hoping and praying that this is all in God's plan. I question God's plan when I have to continually learn of the horrendous treatment of human beings by other human beings here and in other countries, of the lies we have been putting up with in this land of faux democratic government, tapping our phone lines, reading our emails, and torturing all in "the name" of what's best for the USA, helping corporate USA at the expense of the middle class and the poor, trashing habeas corpus... If God has a plan, then we need to help God implement the optimum plan. Otherwise, we get the same pool of Republicans to fill positions that have been filling those positions for the Bush years. With an unimaginable national debt, jobs lost on the rise with no end foreseeable, crumbling roads and bridges, many school buildings not fit to be open, health care causing people to file bankruptcy, foster children languishing in a system that is broken and under-funded, it is time to consider we have left this administration to go unchecked, unheeded and blindly trusted beyond a reasonable amount of time and chances to redeem themselves.

Time to wake up or die sleeping at the metaphorical wheel.

Stepping down from my soapbox for the night.

"...If you don't vote, you're a moron..."

We are voting here in the United States. I am voting this week because I am volunteering to be a poll watcher on election day November 4, 2008. In 2004, I volunteered to work the polls as a clerk. I did this because I was so sure George Bush would not be elected. And I wanted to be a part of John Kerry getting elected and Bush going back home.

There is an HBO movie called Recount which is about the 2000 election when Vice-President Al Gore may very well have won the election, but he gave in too soon and George Bush was put in office by the U.S. Supreme Court.

This movie is being shown repeatedly on cable television now. Website: www.hbo.com/films/recount

There is more on this at the end of this post.

I go to the website Watching America that collects articles from around the world and check on what is being written about the USA Presidential campaigns.

The following article is translated here and originates from Imperiya, Belarus. The only thing I added is in parenthesis below. You may check out this website yourself:

The U.S. One Week
Before November 4th

By V. Batyuk

But many American “Joe the Plumbers” don’t have any desire to understand the intricacies of the candidates’ pre-election programs. Instead, they have hard-core conservative and racial prejudices, which can change the outcome of the 2008 election at the last moment.

Translated By Olga Kerzhner

28 October 2008

Belarus - Imperiya - Original Article (Russian)

One week remains until the presidential election in the United States. According to the polls, Democratic candidate Barack Obama is 9% ahead of his rival, Republican John McCain. Data from Reuters, C-SPAN and Zogby indicates that if the election took place on October 25th, 51% of voters would vote for Obama and 42% for McCain. However, over the past two weeks, the senator from Arizona slightly reduced the gap with the senator from Illinois. Earlier in the month, Obama was ahead of his rival by 14 percentage points.

Be that as it may, only a miracle can still save McCain from defeat on November 4. However, all kinds of miracles can happen during the presidential campaign in the U.S. The Republican candidate can count not only on the resurgence of racist feelings in the white part of the electorate, but above all on the fear of change by millions and millions of Americans.

According to the opinion polls, approximately 70% of Americans are not satisfied with the way President Bush is fulfilling his duties; more than ¾ are dissatisfied with the work of Congress; finally, more than 85% (an unprecedented number!) believe that their country is heading the wrong way. And yet, over 40% of American voters are going to vote for McCain -- the man who (and this is completely clear) will not change anything if he’s in the White House. The reasons for this are his political ideology (while in Senate, McCain supported bills by the Bush administration 90% of the time), and simply his age (he is 72 years old).

The fear of change is caused by the deep conservatism of a substantial part of the American electorate. For the most part, these are white, deeply religious representatives of the middle class, who live in provincial America and don’t have a good education. The extravagant Sarah Palin is not only their candidate, she’s one of them.

Notorious “Joe the Plumber” (Samuel “Joe” Wurzelbacher) from Ohio is the embodiment of the fears and hopes of blue-collar America. Joe plans to open his own businesses, (inserted by me: Joe doesn't plan to open a business - he made that up) but fears that Barack Obama’s economic reform would force him to pay higher taxes. Actually, Obama suggests raising taxes on annual incomes in excess of $250,000 per year, and it’s unlikely that an American plumber (or driver, mechanic, electrician, etc.) would earn such amount. But many American “Joe the Plumbers” don’t have any desire to understand the intricacies of the candidates’ pre-election programs. Instead, they have hard-core conservative and racial prejudices, which can change the outcome of the 2008 election at the last moment. These prejudices have an impact not only on domestic policy, but also on the foreign policy of the U.S. People voting for McCain would like to preserve not only their own welfare, but also the American hegemony in the world. And yet, they only vaguely visualize that world, which they deeply believe that America is called upon to lead.

“There is a deep chasm between the self-perception of Americans and other peoples’ vision of America,” noted V. Krasheninnikova, a Russian scholar. “Most Americans truly aren’t aware of how their foreign policy and all its aspects -- military, political, ideological, cultural, economic -- are perceived by other nations as expansionism, and America itself is seen as a danger rather than a guarantor of peace. While many Americans are convinced that they 'rescued from tyranny' and 'gave freedom' to some people, they are surprised to hear that those people do not want them on their land, and hate America.”

However, people are conservative everywhere and much of the time, and Americans are no exception. Political initiative is created by the elite; it’s the elite who are everywhere and always pushes for and achieves reforms. And the American elite are clearly counting on Obama. Pillars of the American establishment such as newspapers such as The Washington Post and The New York Times have already expressed their support for Obama. The New York Times’ editorial board in particular noted in their story that, “Mr. Obama … has shown a cool head and sound judgment. We believe he has the will and the ability to forge the broad political consensus that is essential to finding solutions to this nation’s problems. At the same time, Senator John McCain of Arizona has retreated farther and farther to the fringe of American politics, running a campaign on partisan division, class warfare and even hints of racism. His policies and worldview are mired in the past.”

In other words, Americas powerful elite do not believe that McCain would be able to lead the country out of the current crisis in America. They’re counting on Obama. This is why an unprecedented number of high-ranking functionaries of the Republican Party expressed their support for the black Democratic senator. The list includes the former Governor of Massachusetts William Weld, former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, and former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.

The American establishment is clearly not satisfied with the views and approaches of the senator from Arizona, not only with respect to domestic and economic issues, but also the problems of U.S. foreign policy. Only recently McCain’s appeals to throw Russia out of the G8 found sympathy among many people in the U.S., and now such ideas are rather irritating. The upcoming G20 summit on November 15th in Washington means that McCain’s idea of the so-called “league of democracies” will be buried forever, without ever being born.

Republican candidate’s limited foreign-policy views have been reflected on his election campaign website. The “National Security” section talks about “Fighting Against Violent Islamic Extremists and Terrorist Tactics,” “Effective Missile Defense,” and “Modernizing the Armed Services.” That’s all. Thus far, McCain has failed to put forward other ideas about reforming U.S. foreign policy.

Obama’s website, by contrast, has an extensive foreign policy section, which elaborates on what policies, if elected, the Democratic President will carry out in the Middle East, Africa, in relation to European allies, Russia and Latin America. Note that Moscow is unlikely to be pleased with Obama’s plans to “[strengthen] the Transatlantic alliance, so that we can deal with Russia with one, unified voice” or “[help] to decrease the dependence of our allies and partners in the region on Russian energy.” It seems that in the White House, Obama would protect U.S. interests far better than McCain.

At the same time, Obama does not exclude dialogue with Russia on issues of mutual interest, “such as countering nuclear proliferation, reducing our nuclear arsenals, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and fighting Al Qaeda and the Taliban.” He suggests, “Keeping the door open to fuller integration into the global system for all states in the region, including Russia.” And generally the senator from Illinois intends to reexamine, “the Bush-Cheney approach to diplomacy that refuses to talk to leaders we don't like. Not talking doesn't make us look tough – it makes us look arrogant… it makes it harder for America to rally international support for our leadership. On challenges ranging from terrorism to disease, nuclear weapons to climate change, we cannot make progress unless we can draw on strong international support.”

Let us emphasize once again that in his foreign policy, Obama will seek to assert American leadership in world politics. At the same time the senator from Illinois has a better understanding of the surrounding world than his colleague -- the senator from Arizona. And that makes Obama a possible (although not a very easy) conversation partner in the future Russian-American dialogue.

ARTISTS FOR OBAMA

If you are supporting and voting for Barack Obama ~ consider an investment in the artwork here. I found a coupon that gave me a 15% discount tonight ~ and I include it below for you to try as well. The shipping cost me $12.08 in addition to the $51 of the one I chose to purchase. The donation goes to the Obama-Biden campaign. The direct link at the bottom of this post goes to the Obama-Biden campaign. I have no connection other than I am voting for Obama-Biden.

"When I was invited to contribute the first all-typographic poster to the Artists for Obama collection, I knew immediately that I wanted to work with the text of his stirring speech, "A More Perfect Union." Barack Obama is a leader unique in the history of our nation, who not only understands but embodies what it means to be an American in the 21st century: not only to reflect on our rich heritage, but to embrace our possibilities."

"From the moment I heard about the possibility of Barack Obama running for president, I knew something extraordinary was about to happen. Hope was back in the eyes of not only a nation but the entire world. And the closer we get to this dream becoming a reality, the more inspired I feel to contribute. So I am truly honored to have been invited to design this poster. The idea behind the artwork was to create a portrait of Obama using the words he stands for. Over twenty thousand of these words are carefully arranged in different sizes and colors to create an entirely typographical image. I hope this motivates you as much as he has motivated me."

"I volunteered my time because I believe in Barack Obama. One of his special qualities is his ability to listen as he inspires change. My image is an expression of this important dialogue with the American people. "OBAMA'08" is formed by outer energy, the red, white and blue of America. "OBAMA'08" is also the center that inspires the energy of an American environment of change."

Although years in the works, "HOPE" was brought to a passionate finish by Robert Indiana in support of Barack Obama, who he hopes will be our next President. Robert Indiana, American artist and sculptor of the ionic "LOVE" sculpture, has donated all proceeds from the print and the various HOPE products made for the campaign to Barack Obama's run for Presidency and, while he generally stays in the world of art, he finds this election a critical one that will dramatically impact America's future. He encourages people to take a stand and vote Obama.

WE CAN'T WIN WITHOUT YOU ~ JOIN THE TEAM FOR OBAMA AND BIDEN

NO TIME TO BE OVER CONFIDENT

I was volunteering in New Hampshire the week prior to their primary. The polls all said Barack Obama was going to win. But he didn't. And at the Primary Party, we got excited watching the jumbo tron as the trailing per centage inched closer to Hillary Clinton in some moments.

Last Call for Change -- Get InvolvedThe McCain campaign is flooding swing voters with "robocalls" -- automated phone calls smearing Barack's character.

These dirty tactics hurt America by distracting voters from the issues that matter.

Just one phone call from you is enough to counteract dozens of these dishonest "robocalls." You can help a supporter find their polling location or reassure a voter who needs to hear the truth about Barack.

This weekend, join your neighbors at a Last Call for Change phonebank near you. All you need to do is bring a cell phone - and some friends if you'd like and click the Get Involved link.

The automated "hate calls," as John McCain once called them, won't reform health care or make our economy fair again. They will only mislead voters with lies and distortions.

The voice of a supporter like you will always be much stronger.

I hope you'll take the time to join us and make these important calls.

Find a phonebank in your community and sign up now to reach out to potential supporters in crucial battleground states.

It's up to us to show that this grassroots movement will do what it takes to change politics in America.

Thanks for everything you're doing,

P.S. -- Next Wednesday, October 29th, supporters like you are hosting Last Call for Change parties in their homes all across the country.

You can bring together your friends and neighbors to call voters -- and watch a special 30-minute TV appearance by Barack. Learn more and sign up to host a Last Call for Change party today:

WHY IS McCAIN SILENT ON ASSASSINATION STORY? A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW LEADERSHIP

Tonight, I was reading articles from Watching America and buried in an article from Nigeria was the fact that four gunmen were arrested in Denver during the Democratic convention with the purpose to assassinate Barack Obama as he gave his acceptance speech. Here is a link to an article specifically about it www.timesonline.co.uk which I got by googling for the story - it is a Great Britain website. This is the first I knew of this. It was not reported on the television networks that I have watched.

I knew Senator Obama was getting death threats. That is why he received security detail earlier than any Presidential candidate during an campaign in the USA history - early in the primary season.

But this, makes the McCain comments about the supporters "off with his head" and "kill him" statements being called out at McCain rallies about Senator Obama even more unacceptable. McCain said that he gets comments yelled at him, too. But he never says what those things are. Are people yelling "off with his head" and "kill him" toward McCain? He simply answered that he is proud of his supporters when asked in the third debate about these supporter demands. He didn't address the issue. He simply said a lot of words are said during a campaign. Yes, but leadership from Senator McCain on this assassination topic seems entirely warranted and expected. But there has been no leadership except to be complicit and therefore encourage more of the same.

The Petition for the Immediate Abandonment of Dangerous, Incendiary Rhetoric, as it Relates to the 2008 Presidential Campaign......

-We hereby call for an immediate abandonment, by the aforementioned parties, of all rhetoric which overtly incites American born bigotries as they relate to Senator Barack H. Obama: his life, his religion, his color, and his beliefs.
-We hereby state that, if, in the case of the continuation of such rhetoric, and in the egregious possibility that Senator Barack H. Obama were to be harmed as a result, Senator John S. McCain, Governor Sarah L.H. Palin, some members of the Republican party, and some members of the media, be held accountable in a court of law, and duly charged with incitement to violence...

Either McCain Is Lying Or He Doesn't Know What Socialism Is

By Bruce Tenenbaum

One minute John McCain is calling Barack Obama a socialist. The next minute he's suggesting the federal government should buy up distressed mortgages at inflated prices to save home owners from their bad investments. Guess what John? That's a little bit of socialism right there.

None of the candidates is advocating literal socialism, a system whereby the government controls the basic means of production, least of all Obama, who is advised by Warren Buffett, one of the most successful capitalists of all time. If McCain were to suggest that, he should be disqualified from being president on the basis of mental deficiency.

On the other hand, as I pointed out in the opening paragraph, little bits of socialism can be found in policies espoused by all of the candidates. Sarah Palin's stump speech includes the line,"Now is not the time to experiment with socialism." The truth is we've been experimenting with socialism since the republic began.

Capitalism is our way of life. It's arguably the best economic system ever invented. But it's flawed. It needs help. Unchecked capitalism is subject to unchecked greed. And that can lead to problems, such as we experienced in 1929 and the 1980s and are experiencing now. So, over the years, we've built a few checks and balances into the system. Many of these checks and balances might be thought of as socialism but they are integral to the American way of life.

Start with the very idea of taxation. All taxation is redistribution of wealth. The government takes our money, then uses it as it sees fit for the betterment of our lives. The decision was made long ago that the free market could not adequately provide everything we need: defense, police, firefighters, bridges, roads, etc., So the government takes money from individuals and spreads it around society. McCain is proposing a tax break for rich people and a tax refund as part of his health insurance plan. Palin pushed for a windfall tax on oil companies that she then redistributed to the people of Alaska. So, while they attack Obama for proposing a tax cut for the middle class, they are both for redistribution of wealth.

We learned after the Great Depression that we needed to insure people's deposits in the bank. Everyone is happy about the FDIC insurance they get for free from the government. The government agreeing to replace your cash if the bank screws up? Not exactly free market capitalism. We also discovered that we needed to provide for the basic needs of our elderly. Social Security was born. And even though it has the word "social" right in it, very few people, other than folks on the fringe like Joe The Plumber, would like to face old age without it. Another safety net that most Americans would not like to live without is Medicare. Socialism! Wait until Rush Limbaugh realizes he can use his Medicare card to get cheaper pills than he does in the parking lot.

Anyone notice that tiny little bailout that President Bush spearheaded a few weeks ago? The one where the government committed $700 billion to buy up chunks of American companies? The one that both McCain and Obama supported? Yeah, some socialism in that one.

Our next venture into socialism will provide us with needed health care. We already spend more on health care than any nation in the world, yet 47 million people go without health insurance. In addition, insurance companies do not encourage preventative care and can choose to deny coverage even if you've paid your premiums. In 2000, The World Health Organization ranked the U.S. 37th in its list of health systems, behind Costa Rica, Morocco and Colombia, to name a few. That's a pretty low return for our money. When it comes to health care, capitalism needs a little bit of socialism.

Jason Jones takes us for A Visit to Wasilla, Alaska ~ including interviewing the current Mayor of Wasilla ~ a must see at 9:30 ~ 14:25

What is the country that I want to live in? One that owns its huge "mistakes" and the intentional wrongs (example: treatment of the indigenous peoples of this land * ), then one that lives up to its national creed. We are a nation of human beings and yet we hear shouts of "Kill him!" about a Presidential candidate in the middle of masses who supposedly have leaders on the stage who are complicit in this unacceptable language in a country where respectability is falling off a cliff.

Each person who can, must vote. It is not enough to vote, though. The loudest and most pervasive voices must not be those who are calling for the Democratic Presidential candidate's head. We must not be a silent majority. We must not allow our elected and appointed politicians think we are not watching them. If they do, they may do things in our names that are appalling. We can admit this because there is a trail left by our countless leaders who have been guilty of this from the beginning of our history.

Obama ~ Leadership for the 21st Century, written by best-selling author Victoria C. DePaul, is now available for a limited time as an Ebook download at no charge. This book will be available as a pdf download or readers can view it online via Scribd. The book is available at www.ebookobama.com .

This book details how Barack Obama has succeeded in establishing a culture of ingenuity, enthusiasm, passion and collaboration– unlocking new levels of personal power and control. Leaders such as Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King know the secret to unleashing the human potential. His unique leadership style has been the catalyst of one of the greatest grassroots movements in history– and it is the spirit, the fuel, on which we will ride into the third millennium.

So just how did Barack Obama, a junior senator, become the nominee of the Democratic Party? How has Barack Obama amassed two million financial donors, raising over 400 million dollars? What is it that Barack Obama knows, that the Republicans have yet to discover? What is it that will make Barack Obama one of the greatest leaders in history?

Barack Obama understands that while the negativity of smear and fear has its initial impact, what really moves most of us is a desire to feel good about and to be in control of our circumstances, our futures, our communities, and most importantly, ourselves. He understands the difference between inspiration and motivation. Understanding this difference is what moves ordinary people from complacency to positive action. Positive action, originating in positive energy is what yields positive results.

Obama doesn't call forth volunteers– he calls forth the leader that resides in all of us. He demands personal accountability—and gets it. He has created an army of grassroots volunteers that is not only contributing financial resources but hours of service in any number of tasks. He has tapped into the spirit of first-time voters and re-kindled the spirits of baby boomers.

There are still so many undecided voters out there, weighing both sides as they determine which candidate will best serve the presidency as we move further into the 21st century. Until November 5th, "Obama ~ Leadership for the 21st Century" will be available at no charge to assist voters in making their decision. These leaders understand that the power of the human spirit is the fuel on which we will ride into the third millennium.
