PIANO LESSON

....................................................

PIANO LESSONS of BEGINNERS MARYELLEN AND CAITLYN from ilovemylifesblog on Vimeo.

....................................................

I am teaching piano to students ages 8 through adult. The adults don't tell me their ages, necessarily. All are beginners. I enjoy each one of the students. Here is just a regular lesson where we used my MAC's photo booth to do simple recordings. The sound isn't great because when I updated my MAC the new system was more powerful and more noise is created when the MAC runs.

We aren't polished here, but I wanted the girls (sisters) to be able to share what they are doing with their grandmother. who lives far from us and Maryellen and Caitlyn couldn't open the movie files of the lessons that I emailed to them, so I put this together for them.

A TRIBUTE to PAUL WARREN ALLEN ~ Warum ist das licht gegeben dem mühseligen

First
Worked on a project of putting together a video.
Second
Imported it at Youtube.
Third
Youtube compressed the movie and the timing was all off. So, I didn't make the video "public".
Fourth
I tried to rework the video seven times to correct this, then upload at Youtube. But, the timing was only wrong after uploading to Youtube, which made the corrections a calculation game at best and a guessing game at worst.
Fifth
Surrendered and made the final upload "public" even though the work of trying to coordinate text, transition placements and singing was not evident at Youtube.

Then days later, my project in the software program was no longer coordinated because I had been changing it, guessing at how to make it come out right at Youtube. But then, I had the idea to try to upload it at Facebook to see if the timing would come out how I had created it in the first place. But I had to retrieve old versions in Quick Time formats and splice them together, then downgrade the quality in order to downsize it below 1 GB, which is a Facebook requirement (Youtube's requirement is 2GB). I know it is hard to follow...but in the end, the Facebook upload came out with the timing correct. So I post it here.

The imposing opening Adagio (in D minor) of this motet, is punctuated four times by the urgent cry of Warum? (wherefore?). The following sections are in flowing cannon form with a 'warm F major glow' reflecting the text. It ends with a nunc dimittis in chorale form.

Johannes Brahms - (7 May 1833 in Hamburg, Germany to 3 April 1897 in Vienna, Austria)

Brahms studied piano from the age of seven and composition from thirteen. He had a lifelong interest in early music and amongst his generation he was without equal in sophisticated contrapuntal technique. He did not enjoy a meeting of minds with composers of the New German School, but his artistic kinship with Robert Schumann and his passion and veneration for Clara Schumann are well known influences on his life. Whether or not Brahms was a believer, he whole-heartedly accepted the Christain ethic and admired and embraced the literature and poetry of the Bible. His background was North German Lutheran Protestant. This inheritance gave to his choral music 'a noble human consolation' and air of hope.

His musical style was of the romantic school; his nature was introspective, reserved, logical and studious. Musicologists point to the essence of all these influences being demonstrated in the a capella motets spread over thirty years, and in his other sacred music, but most especially in the German Requiem.

Warum ist das licht gegeben dem mühseligen (opus 74, 1877)

Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul; which long for death but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures; which rejoice exceedingly and are glad, when they can find the grave? Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in? (Job 3, 20-23)

Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens (Lamentations 3, 41)

Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy. (James 5, 11)

With peace and joy I go forth in the will of God, my heart and mind are comforted, gentle and still. As God has promised me, death but becomes sleep to me. (Martin Luther - 1524)

I'D RATHER GO BLIND ~ KOKO TAYLOR

Since Amazon didn't have enough copies of a piano book that I need to purchase for three new piano students, I am under the $25 purchase amount needed to get free shipping, so I have been sampling blues music at Amazon trying to get my order up. Unfortunately I only need $.50 more. I found some great blues songs, but only in the sampling length. So, I went to youtube looking for the whole song of I'd Rather Go Blind and found this by Koko Taylor

BECOMING INVISIBLE ISN'T WELCOME

Becoming invisible.

That is what getting old means in a society possessed by infatuation with youth.

I think about this because I am entering the winter of my life.
And it is taking some effort to embrace with the same abandon that youth can offer.

This story
ends with a musician who found his way to a place to die that was his place of abandon.

Text with the Thespadecaller video at youtube ~

A video featuring the art and paintings of Cuzona Allport, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Berthe Morisot, Vincent Van Gogh, John Singer Sargent, and Spadecaller.

The lyrics are a traditional variation of a poem entitled The Brookside written by Richard Monckton Milnes (Lord Houghton) c. 1850 and the tune was created by Barbara Barry (1984).

LYRICS:

I wandered by a brookside
I wandered by a mill
I could not hear the water
The murmuring it was still
Not a sound of any grasshopper
Nor the chirp of any bird
But the beating of my own heart
Was the only sound I heard

The beating of my own heart
Was the only sound I heard

Then silent tears fast flowing
When someone stood beside
A hand upon my shoulder
I knew the touch was kind
He drew me near and nearer
We neither spoke one word
But the beating of our own two hearts
Was the only sound I heard

The beating of our own two hearts
Was the only sound I heard

ROCKIN' WITH ...THE SLAMBOVIAN CIRCUS OF DREAMS IN MY LITTLE RHODE ISLAND HOMETOWN

Some bands are better on their CDs where the engineer can smooth out the rough spots. The thing about Joziah's Longo's Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams is that they are fine on their CD's, but experiencing them live is the best way to experience their music. We are one fortunate little Rhode Island town here in Portsmouth. Because we have live music for a very reasonable price all through the autumn, winter and spring months. I bought several tickets in advance this season and last night was another great time. I heard this band for the first time last season, so I knew what I was in for. I got there a little late, missing probably one song and some interesting talk. But throughout the night, I picked up bits of what had to have been quite a story from their two week tour in Scotland and word's like "jetlag", "Dayquil" and "cooties" explained why certain songs couldn't be performed. So, Common Fence Music was their first stop in the USA after crossing the Atlantic.

They were still rockin' though feeling under the weather. How people sit absolutely still and not move to the music is beyond my understanding. I could barely sit there and not get up to dance. Finally, when Joziah said the word "mummer" for the final song, I had to get up.

But, the audience loved them, still or moving. It was a full house and all were standing, applauding a fun time in this lucky little town.

Thanks, Tom Perrotti.

At Intermission

At intermission, as I was passing by, I got up my courage to talk to the leader of the band, Joziah Longo, who was moving away from the table with family members who had come. He said "no" he couldn't do the song I requested - Better Life. He was very sweet about it, took my hand, held it for awhile with genuine warmth and authenticity. He told me twice he "owed" me the song for next time and explained about my request on stage during the second set. Told me, too, it was one of Tink's - his wife's - favorites also.

Then, I really got my courage up to say something I had been wanting to ask, but didn't know if I would be able to make myself ask.

I explained to Joziah that I do Youtube videos and that I would like to use the band's music.
I explained that I always give credit and that I include in the video itself where to go to buy the music, as well as placing a link on my youtube sidebar to buy the music. I added that I roll in the credits: "Support Artists Who Don't Ban Youtube Use". I went on to say that I had been to their website and noticed the Bootleg Videos section of youtube videos that fans have posted. Explaining that I had emailed them to ask permission and never received a response, he asked if no one had answered me. So, after he made it clear that they weren't going to sing Better Life, he said "About the other question" (pause), he said emphatically "Yes." I got permission from Joziah to use their music on Youtube. I am so excited to have gotten the chance to ask last night. And he said "yes"!!

Cool.

I had tested the song months ago as private youtube video and it wasn't banned by youtube in any country, so I could have done it and gotten away with it, but I prefer doing it this way. I will send them a link to their music being used for a probable Heath Ledger video, when I ever get to it after MAC is repaired. I want to use Better Life, Alice in Space, Living with God and more. I own four CD's so, I have some to choose from. This is my first of actually having permission. Though I have tried with another musician with no response.

Living with God

Lyrics

Baby Jane

There are things they try to sell
What they're worth i cannot tell
We spend so much time just survivin'
We let heaven go to hell

We gotta move on baby jane
The way they think
Will make you go insane
They'll steal your love
And slam your name
But that's alright
They cannot steal your light
Yeah can never steal your light
So you just move on baby jane
Yeah move on baby jane

His face is strong, his words are sweet
Specifically honed to knock you off your feet
Yeah... knock you down and hold you under
Anything to keep you incomplete
You gotta move on baby jane
He'll steal your love
And then slam your name
He's terrified you're gonna stake your claim
'Cause he fears your soul
But he's no longer in control
Yeah he's no longer in control
So you just move on baby jane
Move on baby jane
Move on baby jane

I wrote this song for you tonight
To let you know i love your light
But we can't stop here
Or we'll start sinkin'
We gotta move until we get it right
We gotta move on baby jane
The way they think
Will make you go insane
I'd steal your love
And slam your name
'Cause you're so fine
I wish that you were mine
I even wish that you were mine
So you just move on baby jane
Move on baby jane
Move on to the light
Move on move on
Move on baby jane.

ROAR - TV SERIES - a MUST SEE - oh... HEATH IS MISSED

Heath Ledger as Connor in Roar

I am watching the tv series Roar that was made available on DVD in the year of 2006. I only discovered it through Heath Ledger lover-of-his-work-and-person...jopicca. I am sorry, Johanna, I don't know how to describe you....if you have a description that better suits you, please let me know and I'll edit this paragraph!

Here is the video of
Channel Icon
that brought me to Heath in Roar . . .

........................................................................

Uploaded by jopicca
Johanna's Heath Ledger channel at youtube

I was watching the
Tash episode and at the end I was simply immersed in the beauty of the scene with Heath's Connor and Vera Farmiga's Caitlin. Heath is so Heath in this scene. You just fall in love with him. Again...if you already love him. He was so very young . Just 18 years old. (Birth April 4, 1979.)

........................................................................

........................................................................
At 5:40 - to the end - is just soul-breath-taking.
Get ready . . .
Part 4 of the 4 uploads of Tash on youtube
Uploaded by lostwithoutme

The ending is so elevating and yet deeply moving all at the same time.

The Loreena McKennitt Music

The music wasn't credited at the end, as happens in movies. So I did a google search and found it was Loreena McKennitt. Now, I
know, Johanna. I understand the power of this music that you introduced to me. This music is what you put on your lovely Roar and Heath tribute youtube video, posted November 25, 2009 (top video of this post). Now, I understand even more. I was telling someone yesterday about your video, Johanna, and the music that made your video so special for me. I hadn't heard Loreena McKennitt on the other Roar episodes that I am progressing through. Then, the ending of the Tash episode. nn...n...nnnn...just delicious for the soul.

The more I learn of Heath and see his work ~ I am just so in awe. So truly sad he is no longer here to enjoy as a fellow human being. What a gift. Such a willing soul to show us his soul. You can see the depth of Heath, but it is more subtle in
Roar. They were so fortunate to have Heath star in Roar. Every time I begin an episode, I wait for it....

Heath Ledger

as the first name shown on screen.

For some reason, it is a nice feeling to see his name there, upfront - knowing he was just starting out on his acting path. It must have been so cool for him.

And what I
just love, more than other works of his, that I have so enjoyed him in, is that the Roar directors' gave us such tight shots on Heath's face. Just brilliant and so right to do.

And
why not?

A face worth a series all by itself.

Full Circle - Lyrics

Loreena McKennitt

Stars were falling deep in the darkness

as prayers rose softly, petals at dawn

And as I listened, your voice seemed so clear

so calmly you were calling your god

Somewhere the sun rose, o'er dunes in the desert

such was the stillness, I ne'er felt before

Was this the question, pulling, pulling, pulling you

in your heart, in your soul, did you find rest there?

Elsewhere a snowfall, the first in the winter

covered the ground as the bells filled the air

You in your robes sang, calling, calling, calling him

in your heart, in your soul, did you find peace there?

THE TEMPTATIONS ~ A GIFT TO THE WORLD

The Temptations

I love so much about music. It is spiritual ~ it's beyond words. I have no idea how I found this group when I was growing up. My family never mentioned black people. And almost everything that was fun was a sin. But I have some of the records still of
The Temptations that I purchased decades ago. However, I never heard this song until I was moving through Youtube Temptation lovers tonight...

Lyrics

Sooooul mmmh..mmmh..mmmmmmh

Oh whoa whoa (soul to soul)

Picked some newspaper…At my feet

We go blowing down the street

Got out stories…old and new

Need someone to tell 'em to

CHORUS

We don't have to be eye to eye (face to face)

I'm not asking for miracles (or saving grace)

And I don't need another heart (to have and hold)

All I want is a friend I can talk to (soul to soul)

Oh… soul to soul (soul to soul)

Mmmmmh…

Like an album…On a shelf

Tired of talking to myself

Wishing somebody (somebody) passing by (passing by)

Would pick me up and look inside

CHORUS

We don't have to be eye to eye (or face to face)

I'm not asking for miracles… (miracles…or saving grace)

And I don't need another heart… (I don't need another heart…to have and hold)

All I want is a friend I can talk to (soul to soul)

soul to soul Oh… (soul to soul…soul to soul)

Mmmmmh…

Everyone needs someone to turn to

When they walk in their line (got to hold the line)

And we all need a friend we can cry to

And I'm out on the line (I'm on the line)

He..he..

It's been so long now…you know I need a li… Aaai,

Oh whoaaaa…whoaaaa…whoaaa..

Oh my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my

All I want is a friend I can talk to (woe woe woe woe soul to soul)

I just call and there you are (soul to soul)

Shining on me like a star (shining down)

Smiling in my direction in the night (oooooh oooooh oooooh)

And I feel your light yeah (oh oh soul to soul)

I'm feeling stronger now, so much stronger now (soul to soul)

Won't you shine a little longer, longer right now

I'm still holding the line (got to hold the line) yeah

Keep me holding the line

Oh oh my…

CHORUS

We don't have to be eye to eye (or meet face to face)

I'm not asking for miracles (or saving grace)

And I don't need another heart (to have and hold)

All I want is someone I can talk to (soul to soul)

Oh I need a friend right now

(sooooul to soul) *repeat in background till end of song

Someone I can talk to

I'm feeling lonely right now (right now baby)

I just need to know you're there anytime of the day and night

I need somebody who's willing to listen

Shining, shining, shining, shining so brightly right now

I feel like I'm carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders

So much soul

Does anyone hear me calling…
