Change
Hillary Clinton in a way is the candidate of change. If she doesn't like the truth, she reframes it. If she doesn't like the numbers of delegates she reframes the numbers to mean something entirely different than what is the truth. Since she doesn't win caucuses she just says they aren't important. Any state she doesn't win is unimportant. People who take a day out of their lives to hear Barack Obama speak are dismissed by Hillary. IF SHE DOESN'T LIKE THE RULES, SHE CHANGES THE RULES JUST BY WHAT SHE SAYS. In this way, Hillary is the candidate of change. She changes like a * Chameleon.

Experience
It isn't Hillary's experience that makes me not trust her. It is her tenacious trait to say untruths so convincingly. It is the same trait that George W Bush has humbled our good judgment with these last 7 years. Because he says something, even though it is blatantly a lie or just plain stupid, he expects us to believe him. The sad thing is we have been so gullible and have given him a pass over and over.

It is my experience with the void of truth from my President that is of importance. It is the people's experience with the President not being straight with us and taking us for a fool's ride.

I'm fine with Barack Obama's experience. George W Bush has had 7 years of experience. Do you want him answering that 3:00 a.m. phone in Hillary's ad? Do you put much stock in his experience? Seriously, free-thinking people.

It is time for the people to exercise some good judgment and read between the lines and go beyond what Hillary says and scrutinize it just a little. I don't think all the vetting of Hillary Clinton has been done.

The personalities and egos that have been on display will represent you and me. Hillary's ego lacks balance. Just the latest where she claims Barack isn't ready to be President, but she and her consultants claim at the right moment she would declare him ready to be her VP is unbalanced at best. But in truth, it is conniving. It is an insult that she expects us to be stupid. That is a huge difference between Hillary and Barack. He expects us to be smart. She offers up that a vote for her is a vote for both of them. Which she can't offer, but she does anyway. She can't offer because Barack would have to agree and he has said "no" to that idea. Who would want to be her VP and have to lug her Clinton baggage onto their legacy?

States of Confusion: In a span of 48 hours, Senator Clinton has gone from trying to poach some of Senator Obama's support by hinting he might be her choice for the Vice Presidency, and a vote for her now might be a vote for both of them later..To having her chief strategist say that right now, anyway, Obama has not passed whatever qualification test for Vice President the Clinton campaign has -- but maybe he can later. Perhaps he has to take the SAT's. In the same time span, Senator Clinton has gone from referencing the two kinds of delegates -- pledged and super -- to inventing a third category all her own... "Caucus Delegates." Even though her victory in Nevada was in a caucus, and her victory in New Mexico was in a caucus hybrid. Our fifth story on the Countdown: Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote it in 1841: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." Whatever else you think of her: Hillary Clinton's... is not a little mind.

You Say Dubai, I say Hello: If it doesn't sound like cynical political manipulation... Does it at least sound like a logical disconnect? Senator Clinton turns her campaign into a declaration that Senator Obama is not ready to be President. Then Senator Clinton suggests she might chose Senator Obama as her Vice President, even though two of the last eight Vice Presidents, and four of the last sixteen, have had to unexpectedly and suddenly succeed to the Presidency. And then Senator Clinton's advisor says, well, no, Obama is not ready now... but he might be... and he suggests that the date he might be, would fall just after, say, Senator Clinton had been nominated for President. If Hillary Clinton was such an integral part of Bill Clinton's presidency, then why did she not know about his activities in the Oval office with Monica Lewinsky for starters?

Hillary has a lot of experience dealing with a cheating husband. I believe she has that experience. And I believe she has experience pretending to be someone with leadership experience. She has not led the people on her staff. Today, Howard Wolfson and she seemed to not know what the other was going to say today on the trail of Hillary's message.

Hillary, Barack and John. Which one has run the best campaign of the three? Which one has had the most infighting amongst the campaign staff? Which one has been steady and kept their message clear? Which one bounced all over the place and we don't know which personality will show up? Which one has been able to stand up against the lies and smear campaigning with grace, dignity and honor?

Rhode Island ~ One of Hillary's Wins ~ Not a Big State
Here in Rhode Island, we knew it was a state that is entrenched with the Clintons. I believe Hillary Clinton won this state for two or three reasons. One is that the Clintons have a hold here that has been going on for fifteen years. And one is that many here think Barack Obama is Muslim. We who support him know this is not true. And we know that Hillary perpetuates this falsity with her ambition to be President. We, also, know that there are good people who are Muslim. It's just that Barack has never been a Muslim and people are spreading this rumor as it is true.

Lies Multiply Rapidly
Those of us who volunteer for Barack Obama's campaign receive updates and today I received a copy of an email that is being circulated about Barack that is hateful and untrue. There is a lot of ignorance, hatred and unhinged fear that is easy to tap into that makes it difficult for Barack Obama. But that doesn't mean that he will give up and it doesn't mean that we will give up.

Seventeen year old Casey Knowles is the sleeping child in the Hillary Clinton Red Phone Ad. The footage used is stock footage, not shot for this particular ad, but filmed 8 years ago and owned by Getty Images. Casey had no idea that she was "starring" in the ad, until she saw it on TV. She was a bit disconcerted when she saw it, as she is a staunch Barack Obama supporter. Casey thinks "it would be really wonderful if Barack Obama and I could get together and make a nice counter ad".

However, First Things First
First let’s talk middle names. Do you know what Hillary Clinton’s middle name is? And I don’t mean her maiden name as a middle name. Do you know what John McCain’s middle name is?

Everyone must know by now that a middle name is vitally important to picking a Presidential candidate.

I don’t mean that seriously. But since so many keep using Barack’s middle name, Hussein, in order to scare up votes for Hillary Dianne Clinton and John Sidney McCain I did a quick search for meanings of the three middle names.

Hussein means "Good, handsome or beautiful". King Hussein of Jordan is generally admired by the United States of America.

Diane is a French version of the old Latin name Diana. Diana, In roman mythology, was the goddess of the moon. She was also the goddess of hunting. Diana lived in the forest with her maidens; she was pictured as a beautiful virgin, and men who tried to approach her or harm her favorite animals were punished. Source

Sidney means "wide, well-watered land".

Barack means “Blessed” and derives from Africa or the Hebrew heritage.

Hillary means “Hilarious, cheerful” and is used for both men and women.

John means "YAHWEH is gracious". Yahweh is another name for God.

While I was at it I looked up my name, Sandra and after a few quick link checks I found this: Greek, Form of Alexander and means “Defender of mankind”. But nevermind, I would never want to be President.

My middle name means “Rejoice” and the origin is also Greek like my first name. Cool.

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. – The political ad that sparked nationwide controversy turns out to have a surprising local connection.

One of the actors in the Hillary Clinton ad was shocked to see herself, especially because she's a fierce supporter of Barack Obama.

The so-called "red-phone ad" was played all over the country and helped turn the tide for Hillary Clinton leading up to her big win in Ohio. The ad shows a sleeping child and asks voters who they would want to see answering a 3 a.m. emergency phone call to the White House.

But the young girl starring in the ad will actually be voting age next month and says she's no fan of Hillary Clinton.

Thursday night, the Knowles family of Bonney Lake, Wash., watched the Jon Stewart Show and saw the ad for the first time.

"I looked and saw a girl that looked like my sister and we rewound it and sure enough it was my sister," said Brady Knowles.

The first girl in the ad is young Casey Knowles. It's stock footage from eight years ago when she worked as a TV extra - footage owned now by Getty Images and used by the Clinton campaign.

But they couldn't have picked a more unwilling star.

"It's really sort of ironic that my image would be used to advocate for Hillary when I myself do not," said Casey.

She may only be 17, but Casey has some very strong political opinions. She turns 18 - legal voting age - in April, in plenty of time before the general election.

"It's perfect timing because I have a candidate that I really identify with," she said.

"I've been campaigning for Barack Obama for a few months now," she said. "I was actually a precinct captain at the caucuses a few months ago. I attended his rally a few months ago and I'm a very, very avid supporter."

In a conference call Saturday afternoon, Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe gladly accepted the endorsement.

"We think that the young actress in that stock footage who's now supporting us has got sound judgment as to who the strongest commander in chief would be," he said.

The Knowles family admit they have no control over how the footage is used. And while they see the humor of it all, they are mildly annoyed.

"I think it would be really wonderful if me and Barack Obama could get together and make a nice counter ad," she laughed.

Despite all of this, Casey Knowles admits if Clinton wins the party's nomination, she will vote for her. Source: www.king5.com

I SUPPORT SAMANTHA POWER AND BARACK OBAMA

It took me a night and some time to feel compelled to write about Samantha Power. Last night I emailed her.

It is obvious that I strongly support Barack Obama as the Presidential candidate. And it is transparent that I have been a grass roots volunteer for his campaign, but also for ending genocide, specifically in Darfur for four of the five years that it has been allowed to go on.

I own two copies of Samantha Power's book, A Problem from Hell ~ America and the Age of Genocide~ one for me and one for my 20 year old son, who used it in high school for a term paper on genocide. I have given speeches about the Darfur and the Rwandan genocide, always having this one of several books that I own about genocide on display at my speeches. The tenth chapter is about the genocide in Rwanda. And this is the genocide that President Bill Clinton made Prudence Bushnell avoid calling the genocide genocide. It it the genocide that President Clinton got calls for and chose not to answer many times. With Jared A. Cohen, Prudence Bushnell has authored a book One Hundred Days of Silence: America and the Rwanda Genocide.

Samantha Power spoke at Salve Regina University, in Newport, Rhode Island, April 10, 2006, where she signed both of my copies of the Pulitzer prize-winning book. She has endlessly spoken up and out about the Darfur genocide as well as other genocides. Her record on human rights far exceeds Hillary Clinton's.

I have said things about Hillary Clinton that are what I feel and would be seen by supporters as wrong. No doubt. I have only heard the entire quote of Samantha Power once and when I heard the entire statements, they sounded correct to me. As someone who supports Barack Obama and who is one of his visible supporters, it was not the best choice of words to call Hillary a monster by Samantha Power, even if it is an appropriate adjective in the speaker's mind. Even though she is an unpaid supporter. It doesn't come across well for our wish to elect Barack Obama as the Presidential candidate. I am sure what I have written about Hillary and her very, very well paid consultants being SLEAZY would not be acceptable to Barack either. And I do feel badly about that. But for me, it is the truth of how I see her and her consultants. How do you say "sleazy" and use words like "untruthful" to have the same kind of ringing of the truth of how I see things?

The Battle of Attacks

Barack has a difficult time winning the "battle of attacks" because even if he ONLY answers Hillary's attacks he looks weak, the pundits tell us. The suggestion is that he needs to play offense and not defense. And Barack doesn't want to bring up the scandal-ridden Clinton lifetime of EXPERIENCE in order to get the public to remember the waste of time and focus the Clintons will bring back to the Administration should Hillary become the President. And it WILL be a major part of the Republicans' and the 527 groups who will have a heyday with the Clinton history. All the work has been done in the books and online with all of the rhetorical weapons to load up the ammunition against Hillary. What they have on Barack is the lie that he is Muslim, that he has a middle name that means beautiful or handsome and that some relish relying on the divisive ignorance, apathy and fears of those who want to claim he secretly is running President with a hidden agenda. All this is untrue. And most voting Americans know it. Some like Mrs. Clinton like to perpetuate the untruths to further their personal ambition. They simply aren't interested in the truth if the truth hurts their quest for political power.

Samantha Power has never run for political office. She is an activist. She cares about humanity. She so passionately cares about Barack Obama that she let her guard down and said something that would have been best to not say. It wasn't helpful. I am sure she knew that the second she said "that is off the record" to the Scottish reporter.

The campaign was getting very tense, and I -- in every public appearance I've ever made talking about Senator Clinton, I have sung her praises as the leader she's been, the intellect. She's also incredibly warm, funny. I've spent time with her. I think that I just had a very weak moment in seeing some of the tactics, it seems, that were getting employed. I was just afraid really that the campaign would not stay at the level it had been on and I let out in a wave of frustration."

Prudence Bushnell is asked how many "acts of genocide" does it take to make a genocide.

In 1994, the President Clinton's spokeswoman, Prudence Bushnell, talked about "acts of genocide" referring to the genocide of Tutsi in Rwanda. (Page 359 of the Power book, A Problem from Hell). She was not allowed to say the word "Genocide". Notice this was posted not by an American, but it is an important expose of our not picking up the ringing phone, or even jamming the Rwandan radio waves (the main form of communication , not television) well within our capabilities. The radio was instrumental in rallying the people to murder and naming the lists of people to be murdered. If our government called it genocide, it would have meant that we were compelled to act. But President Clinton didn't have the political will to act. He was busy with a personal scandal at the time. The United States of America Clinton administration "blocked deployment on UN peacekeepers (to Rwanda. Page 373 of Samantha Power's Pulitzer prize-winning book.)

Furthermore, page 383 states about the Clinton administration, "It is striking that most officials involved in shaping U.S. policy were able to define the decision not to stop (the Rwandan) genocide as ethical and moral. The administration employed several devices to dampen enthusiasm for action and to preserve the public's sense ~ and more important, its own ~ that U.S. policy choices were not merely politically astute, but also morally acceptable."
Page 366: "...during the entire (1994) three months of the genocide, (Bill) Clinton never assembled his top policy advisers to discuss the killings...Rwanda generated no sense of urgency and could safely be avoided by Clinton at no political cost." And he knew. (Page 354 ~ 389)

WASHINGTON, March 6 (Reuters) - An aide to Hillary Clinton likened Democratic presidential rival Barack Obama to independent prosecutor Ken Starr on Thursday, comparing criticism of her to the 1998 probe that led to President Bill Clinton's impeachment.

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson criticized Obama's promise to take a more aggressive stance with the New York senator after she won three of four states on Tuesday in their hard-fought battle for the Democratic nomination to face Republican John McCain in November's election.

"I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president, but perhaps that theory will be tested," Wolfson told reporters.

Starr was the independent prosecutor who led the investigation of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton's husband, in a 1998 controversy that led to his impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges by the House of Representatives and his subsequent acquittal in a Senate trial.

Starr's probe, which focused on Clinton's denials under oath about his sexual relations with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, came under heavy attack at the time from Democrats who called it politically motivated. Source: Reuters

If there weren’t an important national election in the balance, this would be laughable.

3. Hillary Clinton is a narcissist, that means, characterized by extreme self-centeredness and self-absorption, and disturbed interpersonal relationships. She made statements today that are not in the best interest of honest voters, the Democratic Party or the country.

b. Today, stated that Florida should not have a reelection, but should seat the delegates from the rule-breaker election already done. The reason this is unjust is that many people most likely stayed home and didn’t vote because they had been informed that the DNC would not accept the votes.

This is a contradiction by Hillary Clinton.

OTTAWA -- The leak of a confidential diplomatic discussion that rocked the U.S. presidential campaign began with an offhand remark to journalists from the Prime Minister's chief of staff, Ian Brodie.

(Canada’s) Prime Minister Stephen Harper vowed yesterday to use whatever investigative means necessary to find the source of leaks that, he said, were "unfair" to U.S. Democratic candidate Barack Obama and may have been illegal - although opposition leaders insisted the Conservatives cannot be trusted to investigate political players on their own team.

But the story that reverberated through the U.S. presidential campaign began as a terse, almost throwaway remark that Mr. Brodie made to journalists from CTV, according to people familiar with the events.

Mr. Brodie, during the media lockup for the Feb. 26 budget, stopped to chat with several journalists, and was surrounded by a group from CTV.

The conversation turned to the pledges to renegotiate the North American free-trade agreement made by the two Democratic contenders, Mr. Obama and New York Senator Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Brodie, apparently seeking to play down the potential impact on Canada, told the reporters the threat was not serious, and that someone from Ms. Clinton's campaign had even contacted Canadian diplomats to tell them not to worry because the NAFTA threats were mostly political posturing.

The Canadian Press cited an unnamed source last night as saying that several people overheard the remark.

The news agency quoted that source as saying that Mr. Brodie said that someone from Ms. Clinton's campaign called and was "telling the embassy to take it with a grain of salt."

The story was followed by CTV's Washington bureau chief, Tom Clark, who reported that the Obama campaign, not the Clinton's, had reassured Canadian diplomats.

Mr. Clark cited unnamed Canadian sources in his initial report.

There was no explanation last night for why Mr. Brodie was said to have referred to the Clinton campaign but the news report was about the Obama campaign. CTV president Robert Hurst declined to comment.

The Prime Minister's communications director, Sandra Buckler, has said that Mr. Brodie "does not recall" discussing the issue.

…Although Mr. Harper has for days brushed aside allegations that his government interfered in the U.S. presidential campaign, yesterday he promised to "get to the bottom" of the matter and said laws may have been broken.

"It is not in the interest of the Government of Canada, and the way the leak was executed, Mr. Speaker, was blatantly unfair to Senator Obama and his campaign," the Prime Minister said in the Commons. Read more

When Hillary Clinton tells you that since she “won” Ohio, she should be the Democratic candidate ~ it is just words. Because “winning” in the Democratic Caucus and Primary season means getting the most points when counting delegates. “Winning” a state really means nothing more than perception. For example, Barack Obama “lost” New Hampshire, but Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama received the exact same number of delegates from New Hampshire.

Pundits say the darndest things

Things I have heard pundits say that are not true:

1. Hillary won Michigan. No, she di’nt. She was the only Democrat candidate on the ballot. But the Democratic National Committee’s rules said Michigan was not going to count.

2. Hillary won Texas. This was said and the caucus vote in Texas still isn’t stated by the state of Texas. It isn’t even mandated to be in until Friday, March 7, 2008. Hillary won the Texas Primary vote by 3 per centage points, not 4 as I heard CNN state tonight. But Texas had both a Primary and a Caucus.

Hillary says the darndest things

Hillary has said that she should be the candidate because she has won the important states. That means that all of us are not equal in her thinking. She claims that she has proven that she can win in the “important” states this November because she won them in the Primary and Caucus season. The fact is Barack Obama will win those very same states when running against John McCain. So her rationale means nothing in this regard.

Hillary says Caucus state wins are not important. It is very possible that is because she has lost in the Caucus states to Barack Obama.

“Hillary rules” are convenient rules for Hillary. Whatever happens, Hillary devises the rules AFTER what just happened.

WHEN HILLARY SPEAKS MY SKIN CRAWLS

It’s a reaction. I also have a tendency to gag. My intuition has always been extremely reliable for me. This physical reaction tells me a lot. And it isn’t good about Hillary Clinton.

Hillary claims she always gets asked the first question in the debates. But as President, when the “red phone” rings in that “commercial political ad” she would probably be the “first” one to answer it, wouldn’t she?

There is something in Hillary’s body language that I have been paying attention to in this campaign. And I don’t like what I see. I don’t like how she has intentionally let stories go from her campaign and then she gets a “pass” from “inquiring minds” because she says “as far as I know”. Well, a good leader who is running a campaign and wants to show experience, good judgment and integrity would find out and wouldn’t have to say “as far as I know” so many times. It is suspicious at best. Surely she should know that it was a staff person in her campaign that leaked the picture of Barack in traditional dress because the intent was to play into people’s ignorance and fear of the unknown in hopes that people would hold it against Barack Obama. Surely a leader would lead her campaign’s spokespeople in how they should conduct themselves. But repeatedly she has not only allowed stories to go for enough days to do their intended damage before she says some form of “well, he currently doesn’t work for my campaign” or “as far as I know”. She should know. If she doesn’t, she lacks the good judgment of a good, experienced-toting leader.

She says her Health Care Plan includes ALL and that is why she is better. I got the mailer from her in RI where she bad-mouths Barack’s plan because she claims it doesn’t include ALL. But her campaign has been run to only include Americans in states that vote for her. All the states that Barack Obama has won she has said are not important and don’t matter. She claims disdainfully that her husband didn’t win the Caucus states either, so she discounts those people who are a part of ALL. The ALL she says she cares enough about to include in her Health Care Plan. Just not in counting their votes as important to get elected.

When the rules are not in Hillary’s favor, she twists and turns WORDS to make it fit her game.

Isn’t that the very same game with a different name that we have EXPERIENCED for the last 7 years? The name being that of George W Bush?

George W Bush told us that when he “beat” John Kerry, he had a mandate of the whole country to do what he wanted. Not really. A mandate would have to have included a country that had a huge per centage of the people turn out to vote, have their votes justly counted and then that still wouldn’t be enough. The President would have had to serve the people by being open by coming to us with his different plans and policies and persuading us that his plans and policies were in our best interest. But instead he has done everything behind closed doors and misused the Constitution and abused our trust.

Below is a front page article from our local paper today. Barack Obama won in Barrignton, East Greenwich, Jamestown, Newport, New Shoreham, Providence and South Kingstown of Rhode Island. Hillary Clinton won big with the elderly. In my town of Portsmouth Hillary won by 187 votes. Hillary won at my polling location by 33 votes.

People came to the polls and voted also for John Edwards and Uncommitted. Why does anyone take the effort to vote for Uncommitted, I wonder?

Locally, many voters had trouble choosing

Many local voters were split in their sympathies between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on Tuesday as they went to the polls Tuesday. Some had just recently figured out which way they wanted to vote.

“I decided today to go with Obama,” said Kim Shute, 37, of Middletown. “I’m unsettled about my decision. I have concerns about whether Hillary would be able to win the general election. Still, I sort of feel like I’m betraying the sisterhood.”

“I did the opposite,” one woman said in response to Shute’s comments. “But I don’t want to say it in the paper. My family would kill me.”

“I like what Hillary stands for and what she’s going to do,” said Pat Vorro, 46, of Middletown. “I don’t dislike Obama; I just don’t think he’s ready yet.”

The women commented after casting their votes at Gaudet Middle School in Middletown. Other voters there, at St. Peter’s Church on Broadway in Newport and at Aquidneck Christian Academy on East Main Road in Portsmouth also reflected divided loyalties.

June Weeden, 62, of Newport said she voted for Obama because of his commitment to change.

“I’ve been listening to Obama the last two months, and I think we’re ready for him,” she said. “I was on Hillary’s side for a long time, but she’s just working on her experience. I was very pleased with what she did for health-care issues in the 1990s. I’d like to see her as Obama’s vice president.”

Patricia Archer, 63, of Newport said she came down on Clinton’s side.

“I’m going with her Washington experience and her ability to deal with Congress,” she said. “Her experience as first lady and now as a senator is invaluable. Compare that to Obama’s lack of experience and pie-in-the-sky attitudes. He thinks all these things can just happen, but he would have to persuade Congress.”

Colleen Pilat of Portsmouth said she voted for Obama.

“I think people are skeptical of Mrs. Bill Clinton,” she said. “Obama has that Jack Kennedy spark. He seems to be full of hope and promise to me.”

Divided on Hillary

Some of the voters had specific reasons for their late decision-making.

Jack Warner, 65, of Newport said he decided about a week ago to support Obama.

“What Hillary has done in the past week has turned me off,” he said. “There was that photo of Obama in a turban that showed up on the Internet. I think it came from her campaign. We can’t do any worse than what we have in the White House now. Let’s give someone new a shot at it.”

Kelly O’Connell, 35, of Portsmouth said she does not like what she has heard from Clinton during the campaign.

“It sealed the deal for me when she said she could get the troops out (of Iraq) in 60 days,” O’Connell said. “I thought that was reckless.”

But Clinton also has her staunch local supporters.

“I think she would do a lot for the United States,” said Luz Santos, 42, of Newport. “We all need health care and she realizes that. A lot of families are without insurance and her health plan addresses that.”

Theresa Burgess, 38, of Newport said she decided to support Clinton as soon as she heard she was running.

“She is a very smart woman,” Burgess said.

“I’m Scottish and I’m voting for Hillary,” said Lorreine Harrison, 49, of Newport, who has been a U.S. resident for the past 18 years. “Any woman who has put up with what she’s put up with and is still running for president — good for her. She’s been there, done that.”

However, her husband, Richard Harrison, 50, went with Obama.

“He and Hillary are basically saying the same things, but I like his plans a little better,” he said.

Inspired by Barack

Richard Osborne, 40, of Middletown said he decided he would support Obama 3½ years ago, when he heard him speak at the Democratic National Convention.

“I thought then he would be president someday, just not so soon,” he said.

Shannon Crutcher, 34, of Newport also said she voted for Obama.

“I’ve seen a lot of him and I like what he has to say,” she said. “We need a change and he has good values.”

Was there any particular reason for not supporting Clinton?

“Yes, mostly because of Bill,” she said.

“I decided early on to vote for Obama,” said Charlie Machado of Newport’s Point neighborhood. “I like the idea that he doesn’t have the lobbyists in his back pocket. The lobbyists tie the hands of many politicians.”

“Barack Obama is inspiring and we need to be inspired,” said Elizabeth Seveney of Portsmouth. “He is making us care again. He is getting people interested in politics again.”

Other favorites

The election was not all about Clinton and Obama, though. Some voters had trouble letting go of early favorites.

“I’m voting for John Edwards because I would have supported him for president,” said Kathryn Conrad of Middletown. “I will vote for John McCain in the general election, but I feel like I owe it to Edwards now.”

Conrad said she likes McCain’s personal story and even ran into him at an airport once. She said she has reservations about him, particularly because of his support for the Iraq war, “but not as many as I have with Hillary and Obama.”

Marty Dever, 37, of Newport said he is an independent and only decided in the past week to support Obama.

“I was waiting to see if (New York Mayor Michael) Bloomberg was going to run,” he said. “He decided not to. Now, I think Obama is the best of the candidates who are in the race.”

Low-profile Republicans

It was hard to find Republican voters at the polling places — at least among those willing to speak to a reporter.

“I voted for John McCain,” said Virginia Carrellas, 84, of Newport. “I preferred Romney, but he’s not in it anymore. McCain is more qualified than Huckabee. Huckabee’s a nice fellow, but he doesn’t have a prayer.”

Ray Farrow of Portsmouth said he is a McCain supporter, but he decided to vote for Clinton in the Democratic primary since McCain already had a lock on the Republican nomination. He cast a vote for Clinton because he believes she would be a weaker opponent for McCain than Obama.

“I’m voting for Hillary because I want John McCain to win the general election,” he said.

“I’m a rare breed in Rhode Island, a registered Republican,” said one man, one of several who said they voted in the Republican primary, but declined to give their names.

“My family are all Democrats,” one woman said. “I don’t want them to know I voted Republican.”

“Don’t discuss politics or religion, and certainly not in the newspaper,” another man said. “That’s a good rule to live by.”

Rhode Island will send 32 delegates to the Democratic National Committee. Only 13 of those delegates will be chosen directly by voters. Voters may "cast" a ballot for the presidential candidate for their choice and, in the 1st CD, up to 6 delegates supporting their candidate. The 2nd CD elects 7 delegates. Delegates are "awarded" in each district based on a candidate's vote totals, and the totals are rounded off to the nearest %. The delegate candidates who receive the most votes in each district will be awarded the seats. On June 19, the DSC will choose another 8 delegates who are pledged to a particular candidate. Those seats are "based," proportionately, on the statewide vote. The final 11 delegates are un-pledged. 10 of the unpledged delegates are superdelegates and are sent to the national convention based on their position in the party. The final unpledged delegate will be chosen by the state committee in June. (Baker, Newport Daily News, 2/29/08).

Unaffiliation Nation

With its many working-class whites, women and retirees, RI is friendly turf for HRC, who has the support of most Dem leaders here and maintains a slight lead in polls. But the Providence Journal reported that almost half of the 43K new voters who had registered in the last year "were ages 18 to 29," a demographic Obama has pursued with great success in other states. In another potentially bad sign for HRC, who does best with loyal Dems, most of the new voters registered unaffiliated. If they tun out heavily on 3/4 and HRC loses RI, she will lose more credibility (Goodnough, New York Times, 3/1).

Obama "could be called as a witness" for longtime friend/"accused Illinois fixer" Tony Rezko, "according to Chicago lawyers following the case." Jury selection in Rezko's trial began 3/3 a.m. (Ross/Patel, ABCNews.com, 3/3). Reform watchdogs say the trial will reveal the "cesspool" of IL politics "in which Obama came of age" (Ross/Schwartz/Patel, ABCNews.com, 2/29).

Obama adviser David Axelrod and Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson discussed Rezko on "This Week."

Wolfson, on Rezko: "How many fund-raisers did Mr. Rezko throw for Senator Obama? What did Senator Obama do for Mr. Rezko? Did he write letters for him? What projects of his did he support? How many business meetings did he attend where Mr. Rezko had business associates there? What are the -- one more important one -- what are the full details of this very unusual real estate transaction that Mr. Rezko and Mr. Obama entered into? What I would suggest to my friend, David, and he is my friend, they should put out all of the information regarding that real estate transaction -- all of the e-mails, all of the correspondence, all of the letters, every single piece of information -- so that the public can really look at this and say, what's going on here?"

Axelrod: "There have been 255 stories done on this issue, many by the Chicago media, others by the national media. All these questions have been asked. All these questions have been answered." More: "There has not been one -- as the Associated Press said in their summation of this thing, there has been not one bit of evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of Senator Obama in this or any other matter. And Howard knows that. Look, we are at the end of a campaign. Senator Clinton has lost 11 primaries in a row. Last week, the New York Times said she would throw -- that the campaign's plan was to throw the kitchen sink at Senator Obama to try and stop him, and this is what this is all about. And I think people will see it in those terms."

More Axelrod: "Tony Rezko hasn't raised a dime for this presidential campaign."

Axelrod: "But here's my question back to you, because this came in response to our request and our point that Senator Clinton continues to refuse to release her tax returns, as all the other candidates have. She refuses to release the documents from the Clinton Library, related to her time in the White House, which is the fulcrum of her argument on experience. There has been a refusal to release the Clinton -- the donors to the Clinton Library, despite stories that have surfaced about some of those. Now, why don't you answer those questions?"

Wolfson: "I will. I will. The tax returns are going to be released around tax time, around April 15th. ... All of the tax returns that are not currently in the public record will be released on or about April 15th. ... Now, with regard to the White House records, there was a very good article in yesterday's Washington Post, that I would recommend everyone to it. Basically said, this is a made up issue that the Obama campaign has been pushing. The records were related to Senator Clinton's schedule as first lady were given over to the president's representatives for review. That review has been completed. We've given the records back over to the archives. They are now back in the archives hands. Our say in the process is over, and I assume that they will be releasing them very expeditiously" (ABC, 3/2).

On the eve of this historic primary, Wolf Blitzer of
CNN's Situation Room is recycling allegations of Obama
ties to Rezko (which have already been disproven)
because it so happens that Rezko is going up for
trial tomorrow. Blitzer says this is a big "embarrassment"
to Obama, implying that there is something Obama did wrong,
when he did not.

recycle a discredited rumor about Rezko property transactions,
for which Obama was already cleared of wrongdoing WAY BACK
in November 2006.

Here are the facts, excerpted from an interview by the
Chicago Sun Times with Obama back in 2006:

The interviewer asked Obama: How do you explain the fact
your family purchased your home the same day as Rita
Rezko bought the property adjacent to yours? Was this a
coordinated purchase?

Obama answered: The sellers required the closing of both
properties at the same time. (Note: The timing of the sale
was the sellers choice, not Obamas. The seller, by the way,
was a doctor at the University of Chicago hospital).

A second question was: Why is it that you were able to buy
your parcel for $300,000 less than the asking price, and
Rita Rezko paid full price? Who negotiated this end of the
deal? Did whoever negotiated it have any contact with Rita
and Tony Rezko or their Realtor or lawyer?

Obama answered: Our agent negotiated only with the seller's
agent. As we understood it, the house had been listed for
some time, for months, and our offer was one of two and,
as we understood it, it was the best offer. The original
listed price was too high for the market at the time, and
we understood that the sellers, who were anxious to move,
were prepared to sell the house for what they paid for it,
which is what they did.

Yes, Obama later bought a sliver of adjoining land
that Rezko owned, to increase the size of his own
property.

Obama did note way back in 2006 that "It was a mistake
to have been engaged with him at all in this or any
other personal business dealing that would allow him,
or anyone else, to believe that he had done me a favor,"
the senator said.

So, after Rezko's indictment, Obama donated to charity
everything that Rezko had contributed to the senator's
federal campaign fund.

In addition, Obama not only did ZERO favors for Rezko,
he was a vocal opponent of a bill that would have
benefited Rezko:  In 1999, when I was a State Senator,
I opposed legislation to bring a casino to Rosemont
...which news reports said Al Johnson and Tony Rezko
were interested in being part of. I never discussed
a casino license with either of them. I was a vocal
