WATCHING MY FAVORITE MOVIES...

..IT'S LIKE GOING TO THE WELL. IT'S LIKE COMFORT FOOD, ONLY IT'S COMFORT MOVIES.

Some movies I watch again and love them just as much as the first time. I know the reason I feel down a bit today. It is my issue to deal with. And I will. In the meantime, thinking about the movies that I love to watch makes me feel better.

IT’S RAINING DEATH. I SAT THERE AND CRIED

LICENSE TO NUKE

I caught a portion of this HBO movie, White Light, Black Rain last Friday. I was supposed to be working on the Dream for Darfur event, as I am the lead organizer of it for Providence, Rhode Island, USA. But I have my television on a lot just for background. I came across this movie and had to sit down and be sucked into the story. The Truth. Nuclear War is one thing for those who lived through it. And another for those who know nothing about its truthful effects. I heard a man say at a dinner party a few years ago that we should just "Nuke 'em over there...in Iraq". In my most polite tone of writing - this is simple ignorant and mindless bluster and ego talking.

Each person on the planet who has a television or the means should see this movie. And all politicians should see it and have to write a public response to it after viewing for public reading.

"All things are on the table" has outlived its usefulness in a world that has country after country building or wanting to build nuclear weapons. You have no respect for Life if you want a world with nuclear weapons. We, the
USA, have no power over which countries have a nuclear bomb. We might want to pretend that we do, but we don't.

On August 9, 1945, the American B-29 bomber, Bock's Car left Tinian carrying Fat Man, a plutonium implosion-type bomb. The primary target was the Kokura Arsenal, but upon reaching the target, they found that it was covered by a heavy ground haze and smoke, pilot Charles Sweeney turned to the secondary target of the Mitsubishi Torpedo Plant at Nagasaki.

Of the 286,00 people living in Nagasaki at the time of the blast, 74,000 were killed and another 75,000 sustained severe injuries.

STOP GENOCIDE

The
Beijing, China 2008 Olympics has chosen this theme:

ONE WORLD, ONE DREAM

And yet,
China has been instrumental in the continuation of the Darfur genocide since its conception

As a human rights activist,

I bring to your attention the four and a half year old genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

WE CAN’T SAY THAT WE CARE ABOUT JUSTICE

WHEN WE DO NOTHING TO STOP THE INJUSTICE

We each have a voice.

We each have a presence.

Let us not be silent.

We have been called to be human
 in the most basic way
 on this subject.
Where there is a will - there is always a way.
And where there is no will - there is never a way.
Our collective silence is a weapon used by the genocidaires.

Silence kills.

Complicity encourages and emboldens.

Apathy disgraces us individually and collectively.
We are, each one, responsible for our personal silence.

One World.

One humanity.

One Human Race.

One.

Or Nothing At All.

BARACK YOU ROCK…ON THE DAILY SHOW w JON STEWART LAST NIGHT

Barack and Jon were great together on The Daily Show last night. I like them both individually and together there was a visible comfortability factor. Before Barack came on the set, Jon said he is still working on getting Hillary Clinton to come on the show. That will be an interesting comparison to Barack's way in handling what others would have stiffened over with Jon's jabs and stuff in the news the last few days.

What a breath of fresh air. Will it happen? And who would be his choice for VP? Hmmm...
.............................................................................................

.............................................................................................
See Barack Obama on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night at this link:

http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/group/ObamaHQ/

I don’t like those debate things that much. The YouTube one was interesting. And I liked the AFL-CIO one. Sort of. I have come to be intolerant of being “sold” things. Commercials that are hard-sell turn me off. Campaign messages that are contrived and try so hard to sell me a President with clips are a turn-off too. But I like the way Barack is smooth. It’s a classy smooth that I can actually enjoy. And I like that he thinks. Thinks! Imagine a President who can think and has a moral compass.

My visceral reaction to Mr. Bush is repulsive and depressing. I want a President who thinks. In a way, with the multiple messes that George has us in, I can’t fathom anyone wanting to become President and step into The Mess.

I just wish that we would have 90% of the voting population actually show up and vote.

Barack in
Iowa

I caught part of the CNN specials, God's Warriors:

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/gods.warriors/

Tonight’s Christianity segment was the most interesting to me, but I had a Darfur Lobbying Conference Call and missed an hour of it. Karl Rove used the Religious fundamentalists in both of the Bush runs for President. They are mobilized and energized. And as the moderate tonight said, the moderates are …well, moderate. Which means in the end that they aren’t so energized to become involved like the more dogmatic do when it comes to voting and going after politicians for their focused agendas of homosexuality, abortion and no sex unless it’s married sex.

I just would like to pose one question: Why is it that abortion is such a lightening rod moral issue for the fired up fundamentalists and yet genocide gets no mentions by them? I attended a Wednesday night church service in my childhood congregation this past summer when I was in Indiana to attend my dad’s funeral. And the subject was the Christian’s role in politics. It was a Bible study class, actually, not the Wednesday night testimony nights that I remembered from childhood. Those were interesting meetings. When asked for an issue that the government is wrong about, I mentioned the Patriot Act and another lady very intensely attacked the subject of abortion. Later I mentioned the Darfur genocide. The only one there who seemed to respond like he/she knew of the genocide was the minister. Well, praise the Lord for that anyway.

It seems that the most intense fundamentalist Christians have issues that they want to politicize, abortion, homosexuality, one man + one woman = marriage, no sex until marriage, no stem cell research… but no talk about poverty, children going hungry in the so-called richest country in the world, genocide, forced child labor or soldiers, slavery today, justice……

Having been raised in the fundamentalist Christian mentality I do have a perspective on it. But the subjects that I think are vital include those I listed just above. Not the homosexuality, etc list.

As a couple of the Jon Stewart audience members called out tonight:

BARACK, YOU ROCK!

HUNKER IN A BUNKER WILL TRAVEL. THE BUSH MANUAL

IS the bush MANUAL GOING TO BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ? In truth, our Land of the Free isn't so free. A suppressed people don't have an open government.

HE'S A SMALL MAN. A VERY SMALL MAN. Mr. Bush has A SICK IDEA OF WHAT THIS COUNTRY ASPIRES TO BE. Let's not stoop to the level of Mr. Bush.

I was stunned when Bush was campaigning to be our elected President and a world leader. I wanted to go to one of his speeches and "applied" to do so online. Immediately I learned that you had to be a loyal supporter of George W Bush to be ALLOWED IN TO HIS "Town Meetings" and speeches during his campaigning. (TOWN Meetings? A very selective TOWN.) This to me was out-of-the-question. It was off-the-charts wrong. What kind of democracy discriminates openly, blatantly in 2000? To me this is unethical. It is amoral. What kind of democracy during the run-up to the election in the "land of the free" operates this way? GW's kind. How can a "land of the free" justify prohibiting people from attending simply because they won't promise that they are strong supporters of the speaker of the event? This is wrong. WRONG. Very WRONG. They did this kind of thing for another leader. His name was Hitler. Don't they STAGE these kind of things in lands that we abhor? Haven't we been told by Mr. Bush that we are fighting in Iraq so that Iraqis can have the very freedoms that he is dismissing in the USA and not allowing in this country?

So, this Manual to Discriminate and Manipulate and Prohibit by George W Bush and Karl Rove, no doubt...... is priceless. Priceless because it hands us more proof of this man's lack of secure sense of self and his wish to be King. What is he trying to prove? It can't be that he has actually read the Constitution of the United States. He must have rewritten the Constitution because the one that I have a copy of would render me able to attend his outings. Hello. Are you there, Mr. Bush? Are you playing a game of "Hide 'n Seek"? You "hide" and we "seek" you.

The whole article from the Washington Post "White House Manual Details How to Deal With Protesters" can be found at
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/21/AR2007082101662_pf.htmBy Peter Baker

A White House manual that came to light recently gives presidential advance staffers extensive instructions in the art of "deterring potential protestors" from President Bush's public appearances around the country.

Among other things, any event must be open only to those with tickets tightly controlled by organizers. Those entering must be screened in case they are hiding secret signs. Any anti-Bush demonstrators who manage to get in anyway should be shouted down by "rally squads" stationed in strategic locations. And if that does not work, they should be thrown out.

This was exactly what I found when I wanted to go to a Bush "Town Hall" when he was campaigning. So this is not news to me, but still it is a story that needs to be "outed" and outed some more. There is no justice in the USA as long as this man is in the White House. It's a Dirty House as long as he is there. And we got upset over Bill's oval office extra-marital activity. Mr. Bush's oval office activity is much more a betrayal to the nation.

But that does not mean the White House is against dissent -- just so long as the president does not see it. In fact, the manual outlines a specific system for those who disagree with the president to voice their views...

The "Presidential Advance Manual," dated October 2002 with the stamp "Sensitive -- Do Not Copy," was released under subpoena to the American Civil Liberties Union as part of a lawsuit filed on behalf of two people arrested for refusing to cover their anti-Bush T-shirts at a Fourth of July speech at the West Virginia State Capitol in 2004. The techniques described have become familiar over the 6 1/2 years of Bush's presidency, but the manual makes it clear how organized the anti-protest policy really is.

The lawsuit was filed by Jeffery and Nicole Rank, who attended the Charleston event wearing shirts with the word "Bush" crossed out on the front; the back of his shirt said "Regime Change Starts at Home," while hers said "Love America, Hate Bush." Members of the White House event staff told them to cover their shirts or leave, according to the lawsuit. They refused and were arrested, handcuffed and briefly jailed before local authorities dropped the charges and apologized. The federal government settled the First Amendment case last week for $80,000, but with no admission of wrongdoing.

My question: Whose tax dollars are being used to pay this $80,000?

The manual demonstrates "that the White House has a policy of excluding and/or attempting to squelch dissenting viewpoints from presidential events," said ACLU lawyer Jonathan Miller. "Individuals should have the right to express their opinion to the president, even if it's not a favorable one."

That's what I thought, too. Apparently those high school Civics classes I took had it all wrong.

Tony Fratto, a White House spokesman, wouldn't discuss the manual because it is an issue in two other lawsuits.

The manual offers advance staffers and volunteers who help set up presidential events guidelines for assembling crowds. Those invited into a VIP section on or near the stage, for instance, must be " extremely supportive of the Administration," it says. Yep, that's what I learned years ago.

To counter any demonstrators who do get in, advance teams of volunteers with large hand-held signs, placards or banners were "told to create rally squads" with favorable messages. Squads should be placed in strategic locations and "at least one squad should be 'roaming' throughout the perimeter of the event to look for potential problems", the manual says. OMG!!

"These squads should be instructed always to look for demonstrators," it says. "The rally squad's task is to use their signs and banners as shields between the demonstrators and the main press platform. If the demonstrators are yelling, rally squads can begin and lead supportive chants to drown out the protestors (USA!, USA!, USA!). As a last resort, security should remove the demonstrators from the event site."

Feel manipulated?

What other governments do this in the world? And aren't they the ones we have always thought "Boy, I'm glad I don't live in that country!"

Advance teams are advised not to worry if protesters are not visible to the president or cameras: "If it is determined that the media will not see or hear them and that they pose no potential disruption to the event, they can be ignored. On the other hand, if the group is carrying signs, trying to shout down the President, or has the potential to cause some greater disruption to the event, action needs to be taken immediately to minimize the demonstrator's effect."

The manual adds in bold type: "Remember -- avoid physical contact with demonstrators! Most often, the demonstrators (American citizens that are a part of His Majesty's constituency) want a physical confrontation. Do not fall into their (When HE says "God Bless America" does that exclude these infidels?) trap!"

At http://www.aclu.org/freespeech/protest/silenced.html
find the article: “White House Policy Illegally Silences Americans Critical of Bush”

Vermont is the only state that has the distinction that President George Bush has never visited. Rhode Island was taken off that short list of "States, George has never visited" on June 28, 2007, but even so Mr. Bush avoided all of the protesters. My post title that day "GW BUSH WAS IN MY LITTLE TOWN TODAY - Bush IN Town But OUT of Sight". So when I read in the Washington Post article "... the White House evidently leaves little to chance when it comes to protests within eyesight of the president. As in, it doesn't want any"... it fit exactly what happened When Bush Came to My LittleTown.

VPR's Sara Sciammacco reports from Capitol Hill about the Senator Patrick Leahy's return to Washington in hopes the Bush Administration would meet the Judiciary Committee's deadline for information on warrantless wiretapping.

But Leahy returned to Washington only to find a letter.

(Sciammacco) The extended deadline to turn over the documents passed. Instead the White House sent a letter to Senator Leahy one month after the original date --- claiming the "material is highly sensitive and potentially subject to executive privilege.

But Leahy argues he is not interested in the operational details of the surveillance program.

(Leahy) "What I have been asking, what other members of the committee have been asking both Democrats and Republicans, what was the legality."

(Sciammacco) In June, the Judiciary committee which Leahy chairs subpoenaed information from the Administration on how it interpreted the law and how it justified wiretapping without court approval.

Leahy says for more than six years phone calls of Americans have been wiretapped without warrants.

(Leahy) "We cannot and we should not legislate in the dark while the Administration hides behind the fictitious veil of secrecy."

I WAS RAISED TO BELIEVE THAT DANCING WAS A SIN...BUT I HAD PIANO LESSONS

AND THAT WAS PROBABLY MY SALVATION. THE ARTS HAVE GRACED MY LIFE. I love to sing. I sing best when at home, I sit at the piano, relax and let the music flow through me. When I sing in public I get nervous and it affects my air control. Singing harmony has always been so much fun. For some reason, I have an unconscious belief that to sing in public I have to be perfect. But my favorite singers aren't perfect. I love them because they sing from their soul. I found this YouTube of "Wade in the Water". So much fun. I love the dancers too. .............................................................................. .............................................................................. Music is such a gift.

I taught music to thousands of students over 30 years. One of my students gave me a little picture with this quote on it - "Never try to teach a pig to sing......it wastes your time and annoys the pig." Thanks to Lanee Deblois.

I was raised to believe that dancing is a sin. But I adore dancing....out and about or alone at home to many of my wonderful CDs. Dancing is fabulous. Nothing makes me feel better than music, unless it's dancing. "My only job in life is to be who I am." stated by the character Maxine Gray, aka Tyne Daly on "Judging Amy"

"Be yourself. There's something that you can do better than any other. Listen to the inward voice and bravely obey that." source unknown

The picture of me above was taken at Covent Garden, London, England where I saw the ballet, "La Fille Mal Gardee". My voice teacher had recommended the book "The Art of Singing and Voice Technique" by Viktor Fuchs and I couldn't find it anywhere (before
www.amazon.com days), but there it was, up high on a shelf at the Covent Gardens gift shop.

WE WANT A DREAM FOR DARFUR...OUR SILENCE KILLS

WHAT WE DO FOR OURSELVES DIES WITH US.

WHAT WE DO FOR OTHERS REMAINS IMMORTAL.

I spent my day working toward Rhode Island’s event that is a part of international effort, The Dream for Darfur. Many around the planet believe that Genocide needs and deserves each of us to use our voice toward ending the Darfur Genocide. I have seen the hateful comments, on YouTube and elsewhere, written about Americans who, like myself, are working toward this end, however I, like others, do this work not because our government’s actions are just, but because we believe it is the right thing for us to do, personally.

This effort brings attention to China who has two oil companies, PetroChina and Sinopec, in Sudan who make money for President Omar al-Bashir’s Sudanese government who uses 70% of his budget on the military, which in turn uses that military on the Darfur people. China has a unique position to help use their leverage with the Sudanese government to end the genocide. And China has begun to do so as recently as July 31, 2007.
