MIDDLE CLASS FEDERAL TAXES HAVE GONE DOWN WITH OBAMA - REPUBLICANS PLAN TO RAISE THEM WTIHOUT SAYING SO

Like Romneys tax plan house republican tax reform would mean a major middle class tax increase

Know What Your Candidate and/or U.S. Senator and Representatives want to do

In 2011, the state of Rhode Island lost all itemized deductions, including local property taxes, mortgage interest, medical expenses, donations.  This amounts to a tax increase.  It is NOT said to be a tax increase.  But that is what it is in reality.  My RI income tax in 2011 went up 40% though I had less income than the year before.  Home owners, middle income tax payers, real estate agents, brokers, home builders and home sellers all suffer from this. In the end, it hurts the economy.   In RI, our tax tables were simultaneously changed to allow the rich to pay less and the low and middle class to pay more. Ryan’s tax reform bill, which Romney has said he is for – want these very same things for all – so what Rhode Islanders have in our state now is coming to everyone on the federal tax form 1040.  ALEC and the Koch brothers are supportive of this.  If you don’t want this to happen, being a silent bystander won’t serve you well. A vote for taxes to be higher would come more likely from Republicans than Democrats for low and middle income tax payers.  This is because they refuse to raise any tiny bit for the rich.  The Republicans aren't telling you that the Republican tax reform means this, because they are counting on our ignorance, our lack of getting involved enough to go behind what their words say and read their tax reform bill.  Being knowledgeable is in your best interest.

 Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney

Like Romney’s Tax Plan, House Republican ‘Tax Reform’ Would Mean A Major Middle-Class Tax Increase

By Seth Hanlon, Director of Fiscal Reform at the Center for American Progress Action Fund.

August 2, 2012 at 3:30 pm

The House of Representatives will likely vote today to establish a fast-track process for enacting the tax plan outlined in the House Republican budget, which was authored by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI). Ryan’s tax reform plan would guarantee massive tax cuts for the wealthy and for corporations, while purporting to hold revenues constant. Therefore, the only way it adds up is with a major middle-class tax increase.

The “tax reform” that Ryan and House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) will try to fast-track through the House is almost the same as presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s tax plan. It slashes tax rates paid by the highest-income Americans and corporations, while protecting the tax preferences for investment income that result in people like Romney paying a lower tax rate than many in the middle-class.

It also gives millionaires a tax cut of a quarter of a million dollars. It cuts corporate taxes by more than $1 trillion and gives them new incentives for offshoring jobs. And it purports to be “revenue-neutral” — which means that the middle-class is left to meet the cost of rich people’s tax cuts.

As a study from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center revealed yesterday, Romney’s plan would raise taxes on middle-class families with children by an average of $2,000 and raise taxes on all taxpayers with incomes under $200,000 by an average of $500. (Those estimates are conservative: In filling in missing details, TPC bent over backwards to make Romney’s plan as kind to the middle class as possible, given the hard promises he has made on tax cuts for the rich and corporations.)

A middle-class tax increase is inevitable under Romney’s plan because it’s impossible to pay for Romney’s tax cuts for the rich by reducing their tax breaks. As a result, the TPC study finds, Romney’s plan “mathematically necessitates a shift in the tax burden of at least $86 billion away from high-income taxpayers onto lower- and middle-income taxpayers.”
Ryan and his Republican colleagues use the same sleights of hand that Romney used in trying to hide their middle-class tax hike, including refusing to disclose any information about fundamental elements of their plan like what tax benefits would be eliminated. But the math doesn’t lie: Any tax plan that purports to hold revenues steady while massively cutting taxes for the rich must make up the lost revenue by raising taxes on people who are not rich.

I SMELL A SKUNK …EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE …WHAT IS BUSH HIDING

Former White House counsel Harriet Miers and President George W Bush

"Fool me once, Shame on you.

Fool me twice, Shame on me."

George W Bush has lost sense of reality. He thinks he is King Bush apparently. To me he appears to believe that he is above the law. I mean, the word “outlaw” seems to fit his behavior. He appears to think that truth is something to be toyed with. And as long as this behavior works for him, as long as the United States’ citizens enable him, as long as he is not held accountable, he will keep on keeping on. He actually looks bored, unattached and oblivious.

How does Tony Snow, his Press Secretary, do it? How does he maintain a brain and say what he has to say every day to prop up GW? How does he keep his self-respect? Is it some dark sense of humor that keeps him sane?

I feel like my own sanity is being tested by GW. But a close second is the apathy that is shown by us. Okay I do laugh at George at times, but it’s only because crying is too depressing and would add to the knot in my stomach.

If I lived in Washington, D.C. I am sure that I would have arrived at my present state a long time ago. Maybe, the trouble is that Washington, D.C. is so far removed from the central part of the country that it seems untouchable to the average USA citizen. This guy is unraveling and fast. He is falling apart before our eyes. And are we noticing? The rest of the world is. Some, if not, rare, journalist in the USA are. I feel like screaming, but what good would that do? So I watch, blog and wait. And then he does some other mindless thing. It’s more than annoying. It’s more than embarrassing. And yet. And yet, there are those who stand by this guy. I just don’t get it. Well, I sort of do. I mean I “know” these people, they are my family. See, he “says” enough to keep them happy. You know…that abortion is wrong…that stem cell research is wrong…that gay people are wrong…that he is a “born again Christian”. Recently he used a phrase from a hymn that I recognized. I knew he was saying it for his fundamentalist Christian base. The phrase: "Wonder-working power". The thing is he really “used" the fundamentalist Christians when he campaigned. There is nothing compassionately Christian about his behavior. He has helped big business and left the average American in the ditch. He has no idea how to handle Iraq, so we have “stayed and stayed and stayed the course. He has taken the “Peter Principle” to the extreme. That is when you rise to the level of your incompetence. He has taken justice and stomped on it, shredded it and disrespected the integrity of the word.

Below are two articles. The links are below the article. The first one is from Great Britain’s website for the BBC. There were plenty of other sources for this same subject but I like to check out the take from outside the country. There are thousands of places around the world that get no attention, no media coverage, not a thought as to their importance or their happy or sad, hellish daily lives, but the whole world watches us, the United States of America. When we have a President who blunders time and time again, it is reported all over the planet. That’s what you get when you supposedly are the “strongest” country in the world. But, that could change. And sooner than thought possible. Stength is measured in money and military power. And we are in debt so far beyond imagination as a nation. You can get the cost of the Iraq Invasion. The monetary cost changes by the second at this link: http://costofwar.com/ As of this writing it is nearing $445 Billion. And our taxes haven’t been raised. How do you think that is going to play out? Seriously, if the next executive administration is fiscally responsible they will raise the taxes. And they will get blamed for it.

Our military power relies on the backs of the volunteers who sign up, and who wants to sign up? It isn’t the children of the politicians primarily. Primarily who do you think signs up to go to Iraq?

Bush says aides will not testify

“US President George W Bush has invoked executive privilege to deny requests by Congress for the testimony of two aides over the firing of federal prosecutors.

US President George W Bush has invoked executive privilege to deny requests by Congress for the testimony of two aides over the firing of federal prosecutors.

The row hinges on whether the attorneys were sacked for political motives.

Democratic leaders say they could go to court to challenge Mr Bush's move. He invoked the same little-used power last month to withhold subpoenaed documents.

The White House says Mr Bush is acting in good faith and has offered to let the aides do off-the-record interviews.

The pair in question are Harriet Miers, former White House counsel, and Sara Taylor, former political director for the White House.

Ms Miers has been summoned to appear under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and Ms Taylor to testify before the House Judiciary Committee the next day.

'Unreasonable' demands

The Democratic heads of the two judiciary committees had set a deadline of Monday for the White House to explain the first invocation of privilege last month and to log what documents were being withheld.

US ATTORNEYS

93 nationwide

Serve at the discretion of the president, with the approval of the Senate

Prosecute criminal cases brought by the government

Prosecute or defend civil cases in which the government is a party

Collect debts owed to the government

Source: US Department of Justice

In a letter to congressional leaders, White House counsel Fred Fielding said their demands were ‘unreasonable’ because they represented ‘a substantial incursion into presidential prerogatives’.

John Conyers, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, responded with a warning that Congress was prepared to go to court over the matter.

‘Contrary to what the White House may believe, it is Congress and the courts that will decide whether an invocation of executive privilege is valid, not the White House unilaterally,’ he wrote.

Simmering row

The row over the firing of eight federal US attorneys in 2006 has been building for several months.

Democrats in Congress have been trying to force the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, accusing him of firing the prosecutors for political reasons and then lying about the reason for their dismissal.

Some Republicans have also backed the moves.

But the White House maintains the prosecutors were fired because they were ineffective. Mr Bush has dismissed the attempts to remove Mr Gonzales as being themselves political.

US presidents have occasionally used executive privilege to try to prevent themselves and their aides from having to answer questions or give information to Congress or the courts.

Attorney General: He's got to go

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

“It seems that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has a far worse memory than we thought.

Well, either that, or he's a liar.

Congress is still investigating how eight U.S. attorneys -- including Western Washington's John McKay -- were fired. Don't ask Gonzales what happened. He doesn't recall. He's too busy doing important things like coming to Seattle (the nerve!) to speak before a group of technology executives on protecting intellectual property.

And now, The Washington Post reports that while trying to get the USA Patriot Act renewed in 2005, Gonzales testified before the Senate that ‘There has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse.’ But less than a week before that testimony, the FBI had sent Gonzales a report indicating that agents had overstepped in their information-gathering procedures, accessing more personal info than they legally ought to have. In fact, according to FBI documents obtained by The Post, for three months prior to his testimony, Gonzales had been receiving reports of ‘legal or procedural violations,’ including an illegal property search and unauthorized surveillance. The Justice Department spokesperson says Gonzales' statements were ‘consistent with statements from other officials.’ Which could mean that they were all lying or that no one, including Gonzales, had read the reports.

That Gonzales lacks the sense of honor to resign is clear. Too bad we can't demand that his boss, President Bush, fire him. Bush has his hands full stonewalling the congressional investigation into the firings of the U.S. attorneys. But, America, you are the boss of Gonzales' boss. You can have the attorney general -- a civil officer -- impeached. Your representatives in Congress can start those proceedings any day now.”

As a human rights activist, I bring to your attention the four year, 6 month old genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

Genocide flourishes when there is no accountability.

WE CAN’T SAY THAT WE CARE ABOUT JUSTICE

WHEN WE DO NOTHING TO STOP THE INJUSTICE

THAT SINCE THE HOLOCAUST

HAS BEEN called - GENOCIDE.

We each have a voice.

W each have a presence.

Let us not be silent.

We have been called to be human
 in the most basic way
 on this subject.
Where there is a will - there is always a way.
And where there is no will - there is never way.

Silence is necessary for genocide to go on.
Our collective silence is a weapon used by the genocidaires.
Silence kills.
And we are responsible for our personal silence.

One World.

One humanity.

One Human Race.

One.

AFRICAN CUBAN MUSIC. YOU HAVEN’T LIVED UNTIL YOU DANCE TO RICARDO LEMVO and MAKINA LOCA

MUSIC AND DANCING – EVERYTHING ELSE IS WAITING UNTIL YOU CAN

First, I love the conga.

I love strong bass rhythms.

I love music that you just have to get up and move to.

I first heard Ricardo Lemvo’s band, Makina Loca, two years ago outside in downtown Providence, Rhode Island at a free Friday night concert at Waterplace Park. I adore this kind of music. It has the African and Cuban rhythms brought to life with conga, bongos, drums, bass guitar, keyboard and the wonderful horns, trumpet and trombone and the occasional maracas played by Ricardo himself. And then there is Ricardo’s rich voice. The fun starts in the spirit of the rhythm of the music and in the melodies. As much as I love the upbeat stuff, the slow, mellow, swaying far-too-few songs really get in my body. One I heard two summers ago is on none of their CD’s. I asked them. But a couple are: Sao Salvador and Elbette.

Ricardo and his band, Makina Loca played July 6, last Friday night. Fantastic. Ricardo sings in multiple languages, including Portuguese, Swahili and now Turkish, too. And in his CD Mambo YoYo’s jacket the notes say it well: “If you want the ultimate cure for depression, see Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca perform live.”

Check his website for their dates. Do not miss your opportunity to experience this band in person. I love the four CDs that I own, but they are better because I can summon up the feelings dancing to their music under the summer sky alongside the water.

I’d like to take them home and have them play in my backyard. Though there is nothing like them in person, I wouldn’t post without a taste of them right here. So below is the best of what was posted on Youtube. And Ricardo’s website is: www.makinaloca.com

A very short clip of the band I have had the pleasure of seeing and meeting in action:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=r20SkHzb13U

..............................................................................................

..............................................................................................

Mama Kiyelele – Good quality sound Youtube, but the entire band is not on this clip:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=92vdHP4LYSA

..............................................................................................

.............................................................................................
"This last video was shot in
Havana, Cuba. A real priest of the 'Santeria' religion was used during the shooting performing the ancient African rituals. From the Kongo basin to the hills of Havana via Los Angeles. Ricardo and Makina Loca's Salsa perform the song." This is really worth you taking a look and a listen.(more)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=lbqNaCc506Y

..............................................................................................

..............................................................................................

Dancing is the best when done to African/Cuban music.

From the inside cover of his CD Sao Salvador, it reads: “When Ricardo Lemvo was a child living near a beer garden in Kinshasa, Congo, he was bombarded day and night by Congolese rumbas and Cuban music. In Kinshasa music is everywhere…it feels like you are walking on music….What is even more exciting (on the Sao Salvador CD) than the mix is the happiness and joy this record exudes…By presenting a colorful palette of his musical imagination he takes us back to the African roots of Latin music.” I agree.

WITHOUT YOU THERE IS ONE LESS VOICE FOR JUSTICE

NO DEMOCRACY SURVIVES AN APATHETIC POPULACE

I may not be Cindy Sheehan. I may not agree with everything she believes. But basically, I can't argue with what she has written below. I too am tired of the "sit back and take it" attitude when I fundamentally disagree with Bush's behavior as my national leader and representative. I disagree with everything his actions stand for. I think his behavior has been criminal. And I think Congress is wrong to turn the other way. And I think Americans have gotten used to letting the status quo politicians in
Washington, D.C. do what they want as long as our daily lives can remain the same. No one really wants to start a revolution unless it's for the sake of power. No one looks to turn their lives upside down. But if this country is going to be a democracy - it needs to start behaving like one. "We the People" means all of us need to pay attention to what our governmental officials are doing in our name

and

hold

them

accountable.

It's our country and we need to make that clear to those politicians in Washington, D.C.

It's not the President's government.

It is our country. It is our government.

Let's take it back.

Ban paid lobbyists.

Let the people speak and let the people be heard.

Get a voice or be willing to be voiceless.

We need the poor people to vote these rich people out of government.

We need to act like free people.

Freedom needs to be exercised

or you don’t have any.

When people hear that I am an activist about Darfur, they thank me

Like I’m Enough.

But I’m NOT Enough.

Cindy Sheehan is not enough.

Michael Moore is not enough.

Without you, we have one less voice for justice.

We have one less voice for equal opportunity.

We have one less voice for the voiceless.

It is time to stand up and claim our rights.

No one is going to do that for you.

You have to do it for yourself.

There are plenty of people who don’t want you to know

that they are political crooks.

Because if you get off your apathy

and see what they are doing to you

to your families,

then they won’t be able to have power over you.

Open government must be demanded,

even in the United States of America.

Call Out the Instigator

By Cindy Sheehan

I’m not backing off. I tried to remove myself from the political realm of the US, what BushCo is turning into an Evil Empire, but the blatant audacity of George commuting Scooter’s sentence (he’s not ruling out a full pardon -- and you know he will) has dragged me kicking and screaming back in. I can’t sit back and let this BushCo drag our country further down into the murky quagmire of Fascism and violence, taking the rest of the world with them!

I have sat quietly back these past five weeks as the slaughter in Iraq sorrowfully surges along with George’s bloody escalation -- and as the philosophical opposition to the war has soared to almost four out of every five Americans. I have remained silent when Senator Barack Obama said that impeachment is only reserved for “grave, grave” breaches! Well, BushCo has created hundreds of thousands of graves dug by their lies and greed. For cripes’ sake, George admitted to breaking the FISA Act (which is a felony) that also breeched the 4th Amendment to our Constitution that already prohibited illegal search and seizure. How was Bill Clinton’s offense graver than George's, Dick's, or Scooter's? Did we ever think that the criminality and arrogance of the Nixon White House would be eclipsed in our time with nary a “baaaah” from the Sheeple in Congress?

George has said that America doesn’t “do torture” when we have all seen the images of torture from Abu Ghraib (don’t believe your lyin’ eyes) and know that hundreds of people sold to the US Army for an immoral bounty are incarcerated within the inhumane confines of Guantanamo Prison which is right in our own back yard.

I have had to bite my tongue---HARD---as the George and Dick crime cabal, (formerly known has the executive branch) have claimed that their offices are not to be held up to the same standards of accountability and control as any other entity in the human race, governmental or private.

It has been recently reported that Nancy Pelosi said that impeachment is not “worth it.” Her faulty reasoning is that impeachment would take too much time because they don’t have the votes. If they could “whip” their own Democratic caucus into shape to defend and protect our Constitution and the people of Iraq and our soldiers as they whupped, cajoled, threatened and browbeat the caucus into attaching “non-binding” time lines onto the last war funding bill, then impeachment would not only be possible, but likely.

The recent commutation of I. Scooter Libby’s sentence, however, was the straw that broke my camel’s back of exhausted ennui. Patrick Fitzgerald is a thoughtful and thorough prosecutor who did a heroic job of bringing at least one of the Bush Crime Mob to justice. Even though we were all very pleased, we knew that it was not enough and that Mr. Fitzgerald would delve deeper into the feces infested executive branch. The lawlessness of the Bush Administration has reached wild west proportions and the inmates definitely have control of the US(A)sylum.

A very dear friend of mine, Rev. Lennox Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus, is being harassed by the Air Force for “Conduct Unbecoming an Officer and a Gentleman” because “The Rev” fulfills his duty as an Officer and a Gentleman honorably by protesting Iraq and the Fascist Bush Regime almost constantly. The Rev is still in Individual Ready Reserve so the Air Force believes it is within its parameters to pursue the charges, although every “Officer and Gentleman(woman)” should be protesting the atrocious mistakes in the Middle East. After The Rev’s hearing on July 12th, (in Macon, GA) he is going to begin a “symbolic” walk from the Reverend Martin Luther King’s grave (Atlanta, GA) to DC---I am going to be there for him and to begin the march, but I am not going to make it symbolic.

We are going to walk from Atlanta, GA to Congress beginning July 13th [the Rev's hearing has been postponed for a month...so our walk will be starting on July 10th from Camp Casey] and ending up in DC on July 23rd to send the mis-leaders back home to face the music of justice in their own districts.

It is about time us “peasants” (in the eyes of the Fascist Ruling Elite) march on DC with our “pitchforks” of righteous anger and our “torches” of truth to demand the ouster of BushCo. I have a dream of the detention centers that George has built and filled being instead filled with Orange Clad neo-cons and neo-connettes.

If Congress won’t dig BushCo’s political grave, it is the People’s job to do so. Thomas Jefferson said that we need a Revolution every 20 years, or so, to keep our Republic honest. Over 225 years have passed since our last Revolution (if you don't count the War Between the States) and we are long overdue for one. Turn off your TVs, kiss your pets goodbye, bring the kids and flock to the federal seat of corruption, or join us on our walk there, for a People's Accountability Movement to be in the face of the Criminal BushCo and the Complicit Congress for the last week of session before they go on their undeserved vacations (why do they get vacations when the Iraqi parliamentarians don’t?)

SCOOTER LIBBY, MARTHA STEWART, OJ SIMPSON, GW BUSH AND JUSTICE

I have basic questions about the President of the United States removing Scooter Libby's, the Vice-President's Former Chief of Staff, sentence. Tell me again why Martha Stewart went to prison? Tell me why Scooter Libby isn't going to prison? I don't know the complete details about either one of these people's legal stories, but I do know when I feel my sense of justice is being disrepected and made a sideshow.

Link to Scooter Libby’s trial timeline:

Link to Martha Stewart’s trial:

Link to the OJ Simpson trial:

http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/Simpson/simpson.htm

Martha Stewart did nothing in her role to harm our national government and yet she went to prison and had to wear an ankle monitor while at her home. Scooter Libby and his boss, Dick Cheney, make me feel like I've been taken as a fool. I don't see how the President of the United States wins in commuting or throwing out the sentence for Scooter Libby. What use is the court of law if the President can break it himself? President Bush lies to the American people and he gets away with it. Where's the outrage? This man, we were told, is a great unifier. I don't think that is true. He is, however, a great divider.

It's who you know. Martha Stewart didn't work for Dick Cheney. Okay, supposedly she lied. But George Bush lies repeatedly and he gets a pass. This just sticks in my throat.

Then there’s the over-publicized court case of OJ Simpson. Innocent? Really? Is this court thing really working? I mean it’s a nice idea. But isn’t it a requirement to have people of honesty and integrity running these “nice ideas”?

I need to have just a little chance to think our courts of so-called justice have some shred of dignity. What a disaster to have a President and Vice-President who are so confounded about right and wrong, justice, compassion and history. The saying “if you can’t lead, get out of the way” comes to mind.
