GOV PALIN BELITTLING GOOD DEEDS IN BAD TASTE - SETS BAD EXAMPLE TO OUR CHILDREN

"Sarah claims to be a fundamentalist Christian,
but apparently the Golden Rule was sidelined
for the Democratic Convention."

When I heard Governor Palin make fun of Barack Obama's community service, I thought about other people, myself included, who have done communithy service. She is not only making light of Barack Obama when she did this, but all people who do community service as well as belittling the people helped by community service organizers. It was how she delivered her words that were troubling. Shouldn't we be encouraging people to help others? Not putting them down for doing so. Governor Palin's children as well as other children tuning in to her speech, saw a woman belittling good deeds.

The way Governor Palin put it, the only way to legitimately do good for a community is to be in elected office. Some of the most important work is done by those of us in the community who simply step up to do what isn't being done by others - elected or not.

And as for Barack Obama, he chose to do community work because of the need in the community.

Palin's choice to score on Barack's community work as service and valid early experience borders on the kind of bullying that I saw in a TV ad where young people were being asked not to behave this way. The ad was about cyberspace bullying. And Rudy Giuliani used the same talking point, while making fun of Barack.

To me personally, it made Sarah and Rudy look small. But it made the people feel good in the hall. Sarah claims to be a fundamentalist Christian, but apparently the Golden Rule was sidelined for the Democratic Convention.

Joe Lieberman on Sarah Palin: "Let's Assume the Best"
Andrea Mitchell: Do you feel Sarah Palin is qualified to be commander-in-chief if God forbid, something should happen to John McCain?

Joe Lieberman: Well...you know...let's assume the best (chuckles). John's in great shape, he's gonna be the president and let's assume that nothing bad will happen...why should we? But if it does...yes, she'll be ready.
