Personal life

Nadal was born in Manacor, Mallorca to Sebastián Nadal and Ana María Parera; he also has a younger sister named María Isabel Nadal Parera. His father owns a restaurant and a glass-making business. His uncle, Miguel Ángel, is a retired footballer who played for RCD Mallorca, FC Barcelona, and the Spanish national team.^[2] To this day, Nadal remains a supporter of RCD Mallorca, as well as Real Madrid.^[3] His other uncle, Toni, is his current coach and introduced him to the sport when Nadal was three years old.^[4]

Nadal is good friends with fellow Mallorcan Carlos Moyà, regularly using him as a practice partner. The venerable Moyà has also acted as a mentor to Nadal in his still burgeoning career. Off-court, Nadal relaxes by playing Playstation and fishing.^[5]

I set my alarm for 6:30 a.m. EST in the USA after having only four hours of sleep to watch Rafael and David. What a match! I thought they both were brilliant. Of course, Rafa was a bit more brilliant on the front end and David on the back end... but it was brilliant tennis. It is just the outcome that is disappointing for Rafa. I empathize for Rafa. He is such a champion, not just on the court with his talent, not just as a professional tennis player...all you have to do is do a little bit of research online and at places like Youtube to see how he inspires, triggers our own passions and emotions, opens us up to our humanity and makes us proud to be a part of the human race. His passion ignites us.

He truly is a champion worthy of the word. He epitomizes grace ... just listening to this young man and watching how he "carries" himself with his fans, the interviewers when they asked nonsensical questions at times, how he is with his family, how he receives his adulation with such modesty. He treats others with such respect and reverence. For such a young man, he gives me such hope and joy watching him. Of course, I want him to win. One reason I want this is because he wants to win. And I want what will make him happy. I am just in the “presence” of something special that his parents named Rafa.

Consisting of the world's top eight players based on the 2007 ATP Race, the stars going head-to-head in the final tournament of the season. It is taking place right now in Shanghai, China.

The players are split into two groups of four and compete in a round robin format, with the top two players in each group after the round robin matches going through to the semifinals.
