I met a lovely couple from southern France, who stayed with me Friday and left Monday morning. Thankfully, Jacques could translate for me and Claudette. They asked me to sing for them which I did on Sunday night. And they saw my sheet music for Jacques Brel is Alive and Living in Paris' If We Only Have Love and wanted me to sing it. Which I did. They loved it. And I love the song too. What great lyrics.
Here is a choral version.

Nana Mouskouri sings it, too
If we could share who we are one to one like Jacques, Claudette and I did in three days' brief little encounters, the world would be a happier place.
If We Only Have Love
By Jacques Brel
If we only have love
then tomorrow will dawn
and the days of our years
will arise on that morn
if we only have love
to embrace without fears
we will kiss with our eyes
we will sleep without tears
If we only have love
We can reach those in pain
We can heal all our wounds
We can use our own names
If we only have love
We can melt all the guns
And then give the new world
To our daughters and sons
If we only have love
With our arms opened wide
Then the young and the old
Will stand at our side
If we only have love
We will never bown down
We'll be tall as the pines
Neither heros, nor clowns
If we only have love
To be shared by all men
Then we'll break from the grave
To be born once again
If we only have love
For Claudette and Jacques...
Quand on a que l'amour par Camille Delva
