LAUGH ... then GET SERIOUS

We never got to watch The Carol Burnett Show when I was growing up. After we came home from church Sunday evening, dad always wanted to watch Bonanza. So I missed The Ed Sullivan Show and this funny TV fare...

Awaiting the March 4, ICC Decision

John Prendergast and Kerry Photo:

While Darfur activists around the world awaited the International Criminal Court's March 4 decision on whether to issue an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, President Bashir sought support from President Hosni Mubarak of neighboring Egypt. A great deal of discussion and analysis of the application for an arrest warrant by Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo has been taking place, including a U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee roundtable, and a Yale Law School conference, both with the participation of Enough Co-chair John Prendergast. What the Warrant Means: Justice, Peace and the Key Actors in Sudan

The expected arrest warrant for Sudan's sitting head of state offers the Obama administration a chance to galvanize multilateral efforts to bring about a solution to Sudan's decades-long cycle of warfare, notes the Enough Project's latest policy report on Sudan and the International Criminal Court. Explore the Enough Project's interactive map on ICC cases and a special page on the ICC case against President Bashir. Peace on the Rocks:

Sudan's Comprehensive Peace Agreement

The precarious peace between northern and southern Sudan stands at a crucial crossroads, says a report by Enough Project policy researcher Adam O'Brien. The Comprehensive Peace Agreement between Sudan and southern Sudan was intended by its architects as the cornerstone of peace in a country fractured by conflict, but it has been hamstrung by the National Congress Party's intransigence, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement's growing pains, and the international community's neglect. * I'm calling to ask President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton and Ambassador Rice to protect innocent civilians in Darfur in the wake of Bashir's arrest warrant. Please issue immediate warnings to Bashir and the government of Sudan specifying consequences of attacks on civilians. Please also prepare an emergency response plan to address further violence and appoint a full-time senior level envoy. Lastly, please stand firm in support of the ICC indictment and veto any delay in the prosecution of Bashir.
