Helicopters for Darfur
Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the authorization of the UNAMID peacekeeping mission for Darfur. The Darfur movement marked the occasion with events around the world, including a major press event at U.N. headquarters in New York with a helicopter as a backdrop. We also collaborated with almost 40 partners and released a new report identifying countries that can provide helicopters for the peacekeeping mission.

UNAMID promised 17,000 additional peacekeeping troops for Darfur. To date, less than a thousand have deployed. UNAMID provides the framework for a response to the Darfur crisis, but a mandate alone is not enough. Darfur needs peacekeepers, supplies, equipment, and hospitals now - not tomorrow.
