When the USA, France and Britain and others in the international community have been thoroughly ineffective in regards to the Sudanese President's funding the genocide and arming the Janjaweed in Darfur and ineffective in protecting the millions of people affected, I think it is highly unlikely to expect the Darfuris to take no action at all to protect themselves. To put it directly: How can the U.S. France and Britain "denounce" when their own actions over the last five years have been quite ineffective and denounceable? There are consequences to the silence, in terms of actuality, of the human-made disaster which targets the Darfuri people. And the "rebel" forces against the genocide not only get no help from the international community to stop the genocide, they get denounced when taking up their own cause.
The USA is defined by the genocides that we are complicit
in. And we are complicit in the Darfur genocide as we
are and were by the Rwanda genocide of 1994. I am aware
that the administration wants terrorist information from
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and this is at odds
with doing the right thing regarding Darfur. But as
a citizen, it is not okay with me to allow another
genocide to go by with so much passivity that it
makes us enablers. Our inaction and silence speaks
for us. And it is not in line with our values that
we so proudly believe in.
Genocide flourishes when there is no accountability.
And there has been no accountability.
In an article news.xinhuanet.com titled:
News Analysis: Politically suicide attack
by Darfur rebels in Sudan
the last paragraph states "The international
society, notably including the U.S., France,
Britain, which used to be vehemently criticizing
the Sudanese government over the Darfur issue,
has denounced the Saturday's attack by the JEM
rebels on Khartoum."

Dear all,
At this moment ( Thursday May 15th ) Salah Gosh
Security forces and Special Forces ( The Capital
Troops) with huge amounts of vehicles and troops are
surrounding the largest market in Omdurman that is
known to have large stores owned by Darfuris : Market
of Libya ( Soug Libya).
They are detaining any Darfuri there: Store owners,
customers, street sellers, passers-by .
On Tuesday Security forces accompanied by Municipal
Bulldozers erased : 16 stores in Soug Libya owned by
Darfuris, 3 stores in Elsoug Alshaabi ( Folks Market)
in Omdurman owned by Darfuris, arresting owners.
Sources talk about three mass graves in : Dar
Elsalam, Wadi Saiedna ( north of Omdurman), North of
Algaili (North of Khartoum). Some sources said to be
participants in digging these graves and asked to be
not identified.
Detention of students, boys , young men is stepped
up sharply in the past 48 hours. More reports of
disappeared .
Even women are detained, at least two killed inside
their homes separately in Ombudah, another one killed
in the street in Omdurman when she tried to protect
her brother from Security forces. She was shot at
point blank on the face. All women are from Zaghawa
tribe.

Tuesday, May 13, 2008, email text:
Britain is circulating a resolution draft in U.N.
Security Council to condemn the
Justice and Equality Movement ~ JEM ~
attack on Khartoum.
Arab League already moved fast in supporting the
regime in Sudan and declared JEM as Terrorist
Organization, but ignored to condemn the Government of
Sudan in ethnic targeting of Darfuris in the
aftermath of JEM attack.
We Darfuris believe in the following:
1 Any resolution in U.N. fails to condemn Government
of Sudan for its ethnic cleansing campaign in
Khartoum, the regime will consider it as tacit
approval of the International Community of its human
rights abuses right now and a green light to carry on
its ethnic cleansing in Khartoum. It is the
responsibility of Government of Khartoum to protect
all its citizens, not to target specific ethnicities
with persecution.
2 The International Community bears part of
responsibility in what is going on in Darfur and in
Khartoum. Its inaction created a void only to be
filled by such moves from the rebels. The
International community should step up its efforts in
imposing peace in Darfur by disarming all the players
in Darfur.
3 The international Community should quit this role
of " words producer" and start to assume the role of "
problem solver".
4 Protection of Darfuris in Darfur and in Khartoum is
critical and urgent at this moment.

Sunday, May 11 , 2008 email text:
Dear all,
I recieved this e-mail from a Darfuri with good
sources lives in Bahrain. He wrote:
Another Rwanda Genocide going on in the capital of
Sudan, Khartoum and in Omdurman.
A very genuine and trustful source ,one of the victims
of the Friday Khartoum sweeping aftermath by the
Darfur rebels, told me that the government militants
and security forces launched a very ruthless and
merciless retaliation on innocent civilians from
Darfur region who live in Omdurman, one of the triple
cities of the Sudan capital, which was seized by the
rebels this weekend.
The victim told me how a gang of a group of men,
dressed as civilians, captured him and another three
of his relatives and starting beating them until they
took them to one of the security complex and were
tortured only to be released when no evidence against
them could be reached.
Now, there is a mad attack on civilians in Omdurman
and Khartoum where these militants and security forces
capture every body from the ethnic group of the
rebellions tribe and take them to hidden places where
they will be tortured and some killed. This is
happening now on a wide scale. It is not the first
time such ferocious counterattack and retaliation on
innocent civilians takes place after such rebel
marching in the Sudanese capital. In 19973, during
ex-president Numeiri regimen, thousands of innocent
civilians from Darfur and Kordofan regions were
captured, killed, and buried, some still gasping, in
the green belt south of Khartoum, where mass graves
will be found if the area explored.
If the international community did not move and move
now, I believe we are on the verge to watch another
RWANDA GENOCIDE in the heart Sudan, in Omdurman and
Khartoum cities.
Names of some of those taken away by the
government of Sudan militants and security forces and
BEATEN AND TORTURED and not known whether they are
still alive or killed were also in the email.
Monday, May 12, 2008 email text:
the detaining of darfuris in khartoum continues.
the following are residents of the capital Tri-cities,
not as Government's propaganda alleges having to do
with JEM attack. There is intentional ethnic
targeting. All of them from Zaghawa tribe. Some were
snatched from their families in a brutal manner.
People were arrested from their homes in Omdurman
Hara16 Ombadah all from the Zagawa tribe.
Students were arrested from their lodgings in Ombaddah
Haral 10 Station 6
The list of names was included in my email.
Fighting in the suburb of Khartoum between the rebel
movement JEM and the Khartoum government reportedly
failed. Click here for a video on the attack.
The New York Times answers the question,
"why did the rebels attack Khartoum?"
In Khartoum, the Government of Sudan has cracked down
on the civilian population and imposed an indefinite curfew
as it searched for JEM rebel leaders and members that allegedly
remain in the capitol. It even arrested a Sudanese opposition leader,
Hassan al-Turabi, who has no connection with JEM, and announced
the killing of an alleged right-hand man of a JEM leader.
And according to unofficial sources in Darfur,
"Another Rwandan Genocide is going on in
the capital of Sudan" and there are reports of
all men of Darfuri origin, particularly Zaghawa
origin, in Khartoum being rounded up, taken to
secret prisons, tortured, and killed or released.
A member of SLA reportedly overheard the
Government of Sudan discussing how it wants
to "cleanse Khartoum of all Darfuris."
Meanwhile, JEM rebel leader, Khalil Ibrahim,
warned from hiding that JEM would stage further
attacks on the Sudanese capitol. There is also news
coming out that JEM received help from Sudanese army
officers.
According to the same previous unofficial sources in
Darfur, the Sudanese army is re-arming the Janjaweed
to prepare for large-scale retaliatory attacks in Darfur
itself. Civilians reported seeing huge gatherings of
Janjaweed militias being given 4 by 4 vehicles with
machine guns mounted on the top, full of fuel,
ammunition, and other military equipment.
New attacks are expected on Darfur's most vulnerable
villages in retaliation to this weekend's attack, and
death counts are expected to skyrocket.
The Embassy of Sudan issued a statement linking the attack
to the government of Chad, cut its ties with the Government
of Chad, and threatened to retaliate. . Omar al-Bashir's television
address said, ""we hold the Chadian regime fully responsible
for what happened." Chad denies this claim.
Supplemental Funding Bill for Darfur Peacekeeping in the 2008 Fiscal Year
Purpose: The U.S. budget for the 2008 fiscal year does not yet meet the funding needs for peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, and a political process for Darfur. The U.S. Congress and President Bush must agree a supplemental funding package to meet the shortfall.
Congress and the President worked together in late 2007 to provide just over $1 billion for Darfur in the 2008 fiscal year, including $580 million for the UNAMID peacekeeping force. That $1 billion was a good start, but it falls short in several urgent areas of funding, including:
- $334 million for the UNAMID peacekeeping mission
- $65 million to train and equip Darfur peacekeepers
- $335 million for disaster and famine assistance
- $70 million to support preparation for national elections in Sudan in 2009
- $2.366 million for sanctions enforcement
- $1 million for additional diplomatic efforts
Congress and the President must meet these needs by including additional funds in the upcoming supplemental funding bill for Fiscal Year 2008. Click here for a detailed list how much is needed, where it needs to go, and why.
Status: The supplemental funding bill is expected to be considered by Congress this spring, possibly as soon as April.
Key Offices: Rep. Obey, D-WI, Rep. Lewis, R-CA, Rep. Lowey, D-NY, Rep. Wolf, R-VA, Sen. Byrd, D-WV, Sen. Cochran, R-MS, Sen. Leahy, D-VT, Sen. Gregg, R-NH, as well as other members of the House and Senate Leadership and Appropriations Committees.
Action: Call or write your representative and senators and urge them to support funding in all of these critical Darfur funding needs when the FY08 supplemental funding bill comes up for debate. The Senate Appropriations Committee will vote on this
funding and we have just a few days to convince your
Senator to support funding for the people of Darfur.
Your Senator will help determine whether or not the
U.S. will fund peacekeeping and humanitarian aid
programs in Darfur.
Please take two minutes today and call your senator. Just follow the steps below:
- Dial 202-224-3121 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time and ask to be connected to Senator Reed's office.
- Tell the staff person answering the phone that you're calling to urge your senator to support crucial funding for Darfur in the 2008 supplemental funding bill. This funding will protect and feed millions of men, women, and children in Darfur.
- Click here to report your call back to the Save Darfur Coalition. (This last step is important; please don't skip it!)
Every day of delay is another day that innocent people suffer and starve. Five years of genocide is five years too long.
Genocide Intervention Network has outlined the four-part policy framework President Bush must follow in order to end the genocide and help bring peace to Sudan:
1. Stick to your Promises
2. Enforce UNAMID
3. Apply an All-Sudan Solution
4. Lobby China
