NIGHT OUT IN PORTSMOUTH RHODE ISLAND TO HEAR CHERYL WHEELER

I just came home from a concert held in my town, Portsmouth, Rhode Island in a very modest hall, where we can bring picnic baskets. People bring table cloths and set up on long tables their food and wine. The performers were Bertrand Lawrence, followed by Cheryl Wheeler.

Cheryl is a song writer, singer, guitarist and comedienne. Many of the songs were the same ones I heard last year along with the same stories. But the laughs were "this year". After checking out Cheryl Wheeler at You Tube, I found some songs to include here that I heard tonight. The stories are even the same as what I heard tonight, although she did much better with her "Your God" and "Ghandhi Buddha" stories tonight.

Cheryl lives in nearby Swansea, Massachusetts and married her partner, Kathleen, 3 years ago when Massachusetts legalized gay marriage. She tells the story about how surprised she was at the reactions of everyone when they went for their marriage license, required blood tests and to Fall River, Massachusetts for their ceremony. Although she was expecting it ~ not one person gave them a bad reaction. Each person was happy for them. Cheryl also explains that she never worked for the legalization of gay marriage and never really was bothered that they couldn't get married ~ but when it became legal she and her partner immediately made plans. And she said it was interesting how it did make a positive difference in her relationship.
